  1. thanks everyone, wasn't aware of chainsdirect before, and confused it with another online site when i saw its name first off. Thanks for your help, nearly half price after exchange rate and p&p, Compared to shop prices here in Ireland.
  2. Cheers for the replys - the online shops mentioned above only stock Oregon chains though, don't they? I was wondering specifically about chains made by stihl as opposed to chains that will suit a stihl saw, i.e. an oregon chain. Cheers.
  3. Does anyone buy stihl chains online. Looking for a web shop that will ship to S. Ireland. Noted that shops advertised on here only stock Oregon chains? Cheers.
  4. Hey up Dean, Enjoyed the demo video you posted of the old Thor you had. You keen to make a new video demonstrating this bad boy as well? Would be good to see her in action
  5. Doesnt exactly end in a bloopers but im sure you can all see the potential here for a devasting slide off the back end of the truck. this digger driver has a good bit of neck alright [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dif4D8nYeO4]YouTube - Extreme Maneuver - Unloading the Excavator[/ame]
  6. JUst seeing the pictures there Iain, that did look pretty bad from the start, just as well it wasnt a bigger machine in that same state. Great recovery pictures
  7. Not that i could build something like this myself, so i suppose fair play in a sense for this dudes ingenuity. But seriously dude, you would nearly be quicker with an axe and probably safer! [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=np9l8YD36d8]YouTube - Firewood Processor[/ame]
  8. Just wondering mate - when you say 'used to run one' - did you find a better solution, or did you simply give up firewooding? Ive been looking at these and the Bilke s model for small thinning etc recently. Alot of people on here told me the bilkes end product is more large kindling like then logs, but this didnt put me off too much, as the machine i choose will only be for a very small scale production family members supply. The klapi is a nearly half the price of the bilke - only difference really is the feed conveyor the bilke has. Not only is the klapi cheaper but i found out that my tractor wouldnt have sufficent hp to power it (the bilke) so that model is probably out. Just as a matter of interest do you reckon an old 35 would do the business with a klapi? Does the klapi need low rev and slow, powerful rpm on the pto to cut cleanly? Also - does the Klapi have an emergency stop button near the imput chamber (or anywhere)? Thanks for your help in advance.
  9. Serious front grille on that bad boy. Nice close up of the pine wasp.
  10. Hi, Komatsu looks nicely bogged in the bog, any shots of the recovery?
  11. Dude you got medieval with that butt. Nice quarters.
  12. well spotted Ahh, would be sweet to see that article if anyone has it in their archives.
  13. quite possibly mate, its a big operation alright. What is IRO? Tara Mines is the name of the mine btw - Pb/Zn extraction.
  14. Ahh, those landys get some serious abuse underground, last an average of only two years, before the service expenses outweigh a new replacement and they're shipped out to Africa for re-build and deployment in MInes there. The scrapped landys in the final pictures are machines that have been involved in collisions with 60 ton dumpers and front end loaders underground, usually due to poor parking decisions. They are stripped of parts and then used in mine rescue training operations. Don't think there Irish sourced, as they're all left hand drives for some reason (all the landys and hiluxs are standard R.H.D's). Those landcruisers are a newish edition to the fleets, i'll find out though.
  15. As some of you may know, i'm not actually involved professionally in Tree surgery. I'm a geo for a big mining company near Dublin in a place called Navan. I gather quite a few of you guys like your 4x4's so i thought i'd gather up some pictures from around the main yard and show you what some of our underground fleet look like - comprising mostly 110 Landys, Hilux's and Land cruisers (plus a few other bits and bobs) We run about 60 of these 'light vehicles' right now and i have access to about 10.
  16. Wee clearing job i did last weekend behind my dads gate lodge at Ballindoon, using an old 3ton Daewoo. Theres an old Astra kadett D in the middle of all that rubbish im scraping up believe it or not. leveling off some ground to expand his woodshed.
  17. A Mate sent me these photos from his European road trip in his beloved Troopie. A recent stop in Huskvarna, S.Sweden led him to the Husqvarna museum where he spotted this unusual saw - apparently used for felling in deep snow. Also a lunge at humour Swedish style i suppose
  18. Yeah sure is, heart in your mouth moment, touching cloth.
  19. Probably a common occurrence, but a quite sketchy maneuver @ 1:03 YeeHAA! [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFyU11UTU-M]YouTube - KOCKUMS 822[/ame]
  20. Been really enjoying all these action shots since the thread started. Keep em coming Boss!
  21. Thanks man, most just try and see one in action sometime soon. Tell me, do you reckon this unit can run well on small hp. We only got a small 35hp jobbie back on the estate.
  22. Have you had any problems with the machine? Whats it like on wearing parts and does the spiral shear stand to all the abuse?
  23. Cheers dude, i can imagine what larch or birch coming out of this machine would like, def. not log like. I suppose the next step would be to actually being some of our typical woodland thinnings to a dealer demonstration and see for ourselves. Most see if there is a dist. for Southern Ireland. Can't argue with the speed though. It is very fast in fairness, and simplicity of components looks right down our street as well, regardless of end product. Wood is wood at the end of the day.
  24. aye it would be for personal use mainly, would wood type have any bearing on the finished product, in terms of how splittered up it becomes? What firewod processor would you recommend for small bendy thinning? I thought about something like this also [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jb4r_NvXwqA]YouTube - Model 100[/ame] Aye saw that on tues myself, thats the S3 model in the videos above. Proper quick jobby.
