I was a recymech in the R.E.M.E T.A for four years passed my hgv on a Scammell crusader eka so when the army sold off all the scammells i bought one to keep my 1945 Scammell pioneer company, my brother owns a AEC Militant mk 3 recovery and a Foden prototype recovery , any ex reme are welcome anytime to look round our mini recy platoon !

The ex army four wheel drives could possibly be AEC Matadors or Bedford QL these were used quite a lot for forestry work ,my avatar shows a pole trailer which was operated by a local timber haulier to me it was taken in 1960s and was hauled from huntingdon to finedon northants i collect old timber tractors some are pictured in show your tractors on this website . The other tractor you mention must be a latil these were four wheel drive four wheel steer tractors which originated in france but were later built by shelvoke and drury here in britain . glad you like the avatar , we do timber haulage and loading demonstrations at steam rallies loading with winches and jibs as it was done in the good old days our first show will be at lamport steam and country festival near northampton may 23 24 25 bank holiday w end

  15. no P.T.O guard i know of a farmer who run a generator in a field from a pto shaft with no guard to operate sheep shearing kit a sheep got caught in the shaft and it ripped it to bits in seconds .

I am the standard bearer for my local branch of the royal british legion ,i have done this for the last 4 years my father was the standard bearer for the same branch since 1976 ,my greatgranddad fought in ww1 with the royal irish rifles my grandad fought in ww2 with the leicestershire yeomany guards armoured division my father served in the coldstream guards in kenya 1960s, i was a recovery mechanic in R.E.M.E T.A and my nephew is currently serving in the R.E.M.E as a recovery mechanic,he did a tour of afganistan last year. The restoration was being carried out by my father but we lost him to cancer in september we are hoping to continue with the restoration after things return to some sort of normality again probably after christmas . the unipower suffered with poor axles when we ran it and rear halfshafts were impossible to find so dad fitted eaton axles from a thornycroft, ten stud wheels and bigger brakes being the improvements on the old units . Will post some other even rarer unipower pics if anyone is interested ?
