  4. I visited Whippendel woods yesterday for the first time...had a great day on my own, zig zagging between various trees. I was like a 6 year old let loose in Toys R Us with a £100 gift voucher. In my element. Such a beautiful place. Here's a few piccys.

  8. Pretty certain its Phaeolus schweinitzii, I'm sure someones posted up pics of this actual fungus a couple of weeks ago.

"Do one thing every day that scares you. - Eleanor Roosevelt" One of the things that your cs38 will do is help you to overcome 'the fear', help with your understanding of the dynamics behind basic tree climbing techniques and like previously said 'to trust your equipment' and and gain confidence overall. At this early stage which your at I think its perfectly normal to get wobbly and want to come down. I found that as soon as I started to think about things going wrong on my cs38 my legs went to jelly and it was practically game over for that climb. Don't give up, the first few trees are the hardest, but each time it gets a little bit easier and you enjoy it more and more The fact your conscious of danger is a healthy thing. Good luck mate and don't give up.
  10. I love his little excursions out and about during lectures, armed with secateurs, followed by a troop of arbs. He really knows how to engage his students.

  12. I did mine with them last year...both Tom and Duncan were properly on the ball...Its a cracking course, really engaging and interesting, even when doing it through online self-study.

  21. The buds really stood out.....they're huge! I'm lucky enough to be working at RHS Wisley until next Sept, hence all the unusual woody delights I really like the Sorbus alnifolia.
