  1. Proper shame it had to go, old lighting strike years ago knock the top out, huge crack running down the stem, could fit my whole arm in with silky and not touch the other side. i was glad i wasnt the climber, hurts to hear such a huge tree 40m+ felled. Planted another redwood right next to it,15 years ago to stage it out. Mog

excellent post peter, i agree with having a fixed date same time every year. and maybe same venue for couple years + then change. would make things easier. but yes key is Promotion, volunteers and advanced warning of when and where it is. Cheers MOG

yes 17 was including ladies, Jo hedger won.the other chich was swedish. Jo came 2rd overall in Prelims against the blokes pretty amazing effort. Apparently next year Comp is at same Venue and same time. May bank holiday, the British Falconry show was awesome too, had few birds of prey flying to the trees during comp time, something to look at risk assessment haha. Huge eagles flying bout was pretty cool. Gd to Hear mark and Joe, its very friendly and the standards are from very beginner to advanced.

Wow, great feedback lots of interest by looking at the number of people who have looked at the thread and replied. so what i got from reading this is. Better marketing. is the main thing! SRT demos. Rigging Gear demos. Kit demos. and maybe this will bring in a bigger crowd? But like Tony said, maybe the organisers are not worried about it being bigger. more people, more stress more time etc etc. the comp ran well, the trees were awesome and setup was brilliant. maybe things would be different. i've organised comps before and it takes alot work and time, so hats off to the Volunteers that do it. what is also interesting is there, is other comps on that are doing better than ISA maybe ISA need to change things too. Obviously its not for everyone, than is something we can all agree on. thanks everyone for leaving comments, great to get some feedback. @ RCO it was on Arbtalk as mention before, and how can i predict how many people are going to be there before it happens! funny comment.....but helpful as all ways.

Ok so the general consensus is that is was not well promoted? this is good feedback, as i can pass/email the feedback on. yeah i guess change in Venue would change things too, but where it was just north Birmingham is pretty middle ground for everyone. i get that not everyone is competitive, but as i mentioned before it is not just about that. it was advertise on here in the Comp forum maybe better in the climbers forum next time? but i agree more needs to be done. was a really shame but also cool as it meant you get to meet everyone and chat/drink
  7. i had a great time at the UK and I comp it was mint comp. but man what a shameful show out. there was only 17 people in the Comp and not enough supporters either. really shame its going this way. Arbcamp was nothing, nothing happen. the venue was amazing, the trees where awesome but where were the people? i understand the comps are not for everyone, but these comps do help push new gear, new ideas, training, keeping in touch, contact, drinking, camping, goodtimes, etc etc. this is also one of our few ways of promoting arboriculture and the professionalism required to undertake the job to the wider public. makes me pretty worried in the way it is going in the UK, i think it is real ashame. i would love some other thoughts on this topic?

  20. after climbing with a RW for month, decided to go back to DRT. great sometimes but not every job will be a another tool in the bag.
  21. So silky fox, what are the actually changes? i can only see a beefer attachment hole? and once you give feedback do they take not of what people say or i.e response to you advice etc.
  22. yeah bro the olds one you can clip bineer in but the new ones you cant. the key is when standing on your pantin try and push in a straight line down the rope not, outwards if you know what i mean. this keeps it in and when you want to get it out push your foot outwards and to the right little bit and should come out. practice going up slowly and really think about your movements and you should suss it now worries.
  23. hahaha kevin, yeah just flip it out and then chop the branch off. lol pretty funny bro.
  24. yeah i get what you mean, thats what i was thinking/doing. i think double action bineers are better for rigging they dont open like 3 lock. looking forward to hearing your comments later on it. Viel Spass
