But it could be something other than L. sulphureus causing brown rot? Surely that way of identifying the cause of decay isn't very reliable? There are many different fungi that cause brown rot? I know Hamadryad has a proper explanation for his ident... I just don't understand how you can be 100% sure of the fungus that caused the rot, just by seeing some rot that could be caused by a number of brown rotters? In this case anyway, as you can't see any fruiting bodies..?
