  1. Thanks. Sounds like good advise. I've been advised to pack the space between the flywheel and the casing to stop that area from being pulled with bearing / shaft and collapsing.

  3. Yeah, sometimes I think I should be wearing a gimp suit instead of chainsaw trousers. Sometimes gimp myself on the tool strop....
  4. The Flywheel still turns very smoothly and takes ages to slow down, which is why I have a small bit of doubt about it being the bearings.
  5. Thanks. Can you lock the CT foot ascender like you used to with Pantin?
  6. Checked the belts. Seem hunky dory. Normally belts slip more under load. This is almost worse without load.
  7. Hi, So my right leg has been getting a bit of a battering for obvious reasons so I went and bought a left pantin so I can give it a bit of a rest now and then. I tried both together for a laugh, pushing up at the same time, one above the other. Its amazingly easy, although a bit worm like. Its taken a while to get used to keeping the rope in the pantins. I don't think I'll be using my hand ascender now, I wouldn't be bothered with clipping it on and off. Anyone else do this / got any tips? Thanks
  8. Hi. I'm presuming I have a flywheel bearing on the way out, but I thought I'd ask. Intermittent squealing which doesn't stop when the feed rollers are stopped. Worse the longer the chippers running. Better when cooled down. Does anyone know what bearings I should be ordering? its 2004. Thanks.

  10. MS 362. Stronger bearings etc. Better performance.
  11. Same thing happened to mine. The Spring bent also the tool strop attachment broke. You know how you'd catch the saw by the strop, if you miss, the snatch does that to the mounting. The shop replaced both parts free. I shortened my tool strop and it hasn't happened since. Power wise, a little bit more than MS200T. Balance is perfect. Feels lighter than a MS200T ( a bit). Needs chocking to start more often. The guarding on the exhaust is better, I can get away with clipping it my harness with the engine running - don't think I could have done that with A MS220T. Overall I'm happy - hoping it turns out to be less temperamental than MS200T. (I didn't even consider the new sthil)
  12. Does anyone know what Boa say about tension? I can't seem to find an official explanation of the required tension. The fella on YouTube bracing the Indian Bean Tree has it well slack. Bit confused.
  13. Fair enough. I'll try the 2nd throw line. I'll keep the ascentree unattached to anything, I only use it for long pulls anyway. Thanks for your help, might be more likely to stay in the tree now.
  14. I'm on Marlow Aeris static (seems great although suffering ascender damage easily). I only clip the ascender to the rw to keep the vt up. If I used something very weak for that, maybe I'll be safe. If it snatches it will break before the rope, with any luck. The only reason why I started using SRT was because of not having to isolate the branch. To me isolating takes too long - quicker to drt up, so I'm definitely not going to mess about with a 2nd throw line. Cheers for all the input.
  15. I use a rope wrench and VT, but when I'm doing a long ascend I stick an ascentree above (and connected to it). If I had a fall (due to small branch failure) i think the first thing to bite would be the ascentree, which could mean that the rope fails above the VT. Ascentree has teeth all right. If I'm stood on the pantin it would be ok, but maybe not if I was pulling / standing on the ascentree. Maybe in the future if the rope is going across small branches I should just stick to the pantin and rw / vt. Thanks for the info.
  16. One of the lads that works with told me that a drop of 1 or 2 meters on an ascender could snap your rope. He didn't seem certain and couldn't tell me where he got this info so I thought I'd ask on here. The situation I'm considering is when you've pulled your line through the back of the tree and you got it through a good crotch at the top, but it's passing over smaller branches which could snap. I was thinking kermantle rope should be ok as the strength is in the core, but maybe not on arborist line. Any body know the truth? Thanks.

  21. Do you think a bigger compact would be better? Row spacing is often 1.5m here. Hard to decide between quad and compact tractor. Quad = speed but design tow on a diesel arctic cat is 1/2 tonne Compact tractor would pull more and could run the log splitter off it, wouldn't need a donkey for a forwarding trailer.

  23. Has anyone had any experience of a Goldoni Quad 20 for thinning extraction? Seems like it might be a good yolk. I think it's just a Goldoni Base 20 with flotation tyres. It's an articulated alpine with a 22hp Lombadini diesel.
  24. Hi. Was just reading your reading your contribution to the small scale extraction thread. Can you get between rows with your small tractor and forwarding trailer in a conifer plantation?
