  1. Here found in Sycamore..... I still get a wee bit confused as to what number wall is what......if anybody (MOnkeyD:001_rolleyes:) wants to take the time to label the walls on this photo to educate us all it would be appreciated. Ta.
  2. Fair enough regarding your tounge in cheek comment. As for being 'an average tree hugger' that is a comment made with no knowledge of myself or my views. As an aborist I fell trees day in day out both for private clients and within the public sector. If I was as you refer to me as an average tree hugger there is know way I would be able to do this. With regards to this thread i do not know enough about the situation to make any statements about it and that will remain the case until I have researched it further. I was merely bringing to others attention. Sorry for 'bellowing' but your comment regarding protesters was interpreted by me obviously wrongly as a boast and for that I aplogise.
  3. Some gret shots there.....and some great examples of what she should be aspiring to with NFP's

  8. Finally realised an ambition of mine last week.....to visit the Helford River in Cornwall. Didnt have as much time there as i would have liked but certainly enough to wet my appetite. The place is stunning. Woodlands meeting the river banks. I felt like i had stepped back in time at times. Now i am planning a boat/kayak trip to follow the river and it's tributaries as far as poss.
  9. Was in Cornwall last week.......the light was nothing short of spectacular!
  10. Inonotus Hispidus Hosted here on Ash. The fruiting bodies vary from two and a half inches to twelve inches across and one to four inches thick. When the brackets first appear they are fleshy with a light brown upper surface and a velvety appearance with a white under surface. Once the brackets become more mature they are much darker on the upper and under surfaces and they lose their soft velvety appearance. The decay of Inonotus hispidus has been classed as a white rot decay fungi, attacking cellulose and lignin at a similar rate especially on Ash. This affects the compression and tension timber at the same time, this in turn can cause the timber to become very brittle, depending on the characteristics of the timber infected.

  12. Not really no.....unless it's well hidden. I just love trees, looking at them, working on them, using them. They are powerful things and we utilise their energy whether we are aware of it or not. We need them.
  13. Hi Yve.....

I have decide to order some Haix boots from your company via the company I work for in London.....The Tree Company. Unfortunately our company's budget for boots is £120 and we have to pay the excess. Therefore I was wondering/(being cheeky) if as an Arb Talk member I could maybe have a wee bit of discount? Hopefully I can then encourage the other boys at work to also look at getting kit from you.

Anyway no worries if not....it will not effect my ordering from you. Just a thought.

    Kind regards

    Sean Harding.

  14. Ash pollard on a wall in Cornwall......Nice.
  15. As the title suggests this thread is intended to focus on one tree a month. It will hopefully be a celebration of our Native Trees in order to aid us all in learning as much as possible about them. Our experiences working with them, fungal associations, pests and diseases, photographs, myths, legends and their place in the arts and culture. As said before a celebration and learning resource. I thought we could use the Celtic Tree Ogham calendar as a starter whose origins lie with the Celtic tribes who migrated to Britain around 700 – 500bc. Trees were venerated by the ancients for their many gifts which were a mainstay of peoples lifestyles. Everybody was born under a particular tree (the same as our own zodiac sign) of which this months Tree ‘The Silver Birch’ was the first in the calender falling between 24th December and 20th January. Hopefully this thread will work and we can collate all sorts of useful and interesting information about our native trees. I hope there are a few of you who feel the same. This months tree covering the dates 18th Feb-17th March is Ash....(Fraxinus Excelsior.) Once again...photo's, facts anything Ash related. Please feel free to add to previous months trees as an ongoing database Cheers
