  1. I didnt feel to bad up there but certainly wasnt the most comfortable ive been in a tree the first couple bits of timber i was lowering from 100ft!
  2. Theres no set size to weight you just have to guess i always do small bits first to get the ball park figures the crane guy will tell me how much it weighed and you judge the rest its better to be over estimating the weight of the bits
  3. Yep worked out perfectly in the end i was worried on sunday when i went to go set up the ropes ready for the monday start, it was then i finally desided on a crane
  4. Its been surveyed by a very professional company on a regular basis the owner doesnt no why its died though so i gather there hasnt been any history of fruiting bodies found. I havent peeled back any bark but there hasnt been any sign of anything unusal it patches of bark that got removed while lowering etc.
  5. no worries david, any ideas of what might have been causing the decay. no signs of fruiting bodies on the floor of anywhere on the stem. would this have been one of or maybe the reason it finally died? forgot to say its 136/ 140 yrs old
  6. yer they are expensive but my laptop is like 4/5 yrs old and wayyyy past its best, thought id get the imac as its good for music and video so perfect for editing stuff.
  7. it certainly wasnt nice weather at all today. not sure yet as and when peter can do it.
  8. went in crack of dawn today to pick the timber off took all of a hour to get it to the floor with a 25ton city crane just had MM's to spare getting through the tight access. took it down to 4/5ft high as there going to have a seat carved into it. took a shot of the stump for you david theres quite a few signs of decay higher up aswell as in the stump shot. my 3120xp managed to loose one of the bar threads into the oil tank again so ended up with my groundys 660 with 36inch bar. ended up with 3 bottles of wine from the resturant as a tip so happy days time for a nice break. when my apple imac arrives ill edit the video
  9. Nice vid, nice rigging.looked a awful tree to work on! Thanks for posting
  10. I fitted mine last week finally got sick of all the heat being wasted on the open fire. Not pretty, rough and ready but all in cost me under 400quid for everything.
  11. Nice job, no helmet cam? How much did that last lift weigh in at?
  12. cheers silky its going perfect just need to wait for the crane to get the rest down so half a day with a crane and she will be down. then talked to the client today going to leave the stump high and i told him he should carve a seat in it. i said make it a circular seat all the way around the stump would look sweet. hes game for it aswell. few off my phone and gareths phone.
  13. today we had another early finish, just stripped it out, and lowered the stem to 70ft ready for the crane to come in for the timber. another nice day for it.
  14. yup its on yarmouth road in thorpe. can see it from a mile off
  15. originally i was going to rig it all down timber aswell, but now im thinking crane, it just depends what size crane we can get in as just under 9ft is the widest access to the site.
  16. i shall get one when we get it down, hopefully this week but all depends on when we can get a crane in.
  17. not sure david, it turned brown in august. its in a hotel all tarmaced around its base, used as a turning circle so maybe, compaction or maybe the hard summer we had?
  18. cheers guys, its one of those jobs ill be happy after its finished. its a once in a life time tree really. im trying to enjoy it as much as i can. theres loads of pics hundreds but there not all good pics (after all the mrs took em) there will be a vid aswell at a later date. im hoping to get a crane in to pick the timber off.
  19. views from the top over norwich and a pic of the very top.
  20. already had my rope up the top so until are first break i didnt bother with spikes but i wore them after that, certainly is a few tons in that tree!
  21. today i started my first redwood dismantle. 110ft high 8ft diameter at the base. took it easy today as i was let down last minute with 1 of my groundys so was left with 1 on the ground and me up the tree and my missus taking pictures. this tree is a totally different kettle of fish to anything ive done before. its scary, i hate heights. all got to be lowered. least the weather is goodish
  22. Properly is but to me they are totally unnatural they shouldnt be able to go that high and reach out as far as they do without tipping if i was going to have a accident it would be in 1 of those
  23. Ive done my fair share of horrible trees but i agree with skyhuck i feel much safer up a tree than a mewp i physically cant go up in them anymore not for me at all. ive been in tracked 18 meters, truck mounted 20meters etc etc there not safer in my eyes if the trees still standing its stronger than it looks.
