  1. Cheers guys, i think a bit of post-crete would do the job for bp I've just finished uni and I really enjoy tree surgery/forestry, but then theres not a lot of money in it.... a friend of mine was on about going on the rigs so just looking at options really
  2. When i did my cs 31, we were allowed to put some wooden dowl in the gob, so when you do your back cut you can get the hinge nice and parallel
  3. Cheers mate, just got to get some nice bits of wood to chop now Good luck with yours!
  4. Hi guys, well i was wondering if all rigs run on the 2 weeks on 2 weeks off system? I see the best way to start is as an roustabout man, is promotion quite a quick thing on oil rigs? And last of all whats the best way to get noticed/employed by an oil compny? Any info would be great, thanks Dave.
  5. Thats what i've been hearing, the wages do differ from website to website, but i guess it depends which company they are quoting from. The "heli ditching" sounds like that could a hair raising training course! Thanks for the info
  6. Hi waz77, well i guess you've got a good idea what the conditions and work is like on the rigs as i've been looking at different web sites and they seem to give varied impressions.....
  7. Hi, i was just wondering if there's anyone on here who's worked on an oil rig or something similar? Cheers Dave.
  8. What about starting an invisible chainsaw movement (also could be used on the dance floor )
  9. 361 is a great saw, got a 20" bar on and works well with it!
  10. Hi, o right, yea apparently it is, soon find out!
  11. Hi Sburdy, I'm starting that course at Reaseheath in september, did you go to one of the early interviews?
  12. Hammerite...... its homebase's finest general purpose paint with some plastic stuff in it (and by the way the red is international harvester red )
  13. Cheers mate, i did change the angle on the blade and i added some extra bits of angle iron to the blade (which you can see in the last pic) which seemed to help splitting! Well all the steel on it is either 8 or 10 mm thick so i'm hoping it'll last awhile, unlike the paint job!
  14. For this prototype I worked it out to be about £1000, but now the design is sorted and if I bought the components and materials in bulk I could manufacture them for £750 or there abouts!
  15. Hi everyone, Just thought i'd put a picture or two of my log splitter now its finished!
  16. Hi Apbell, I've tried to follow it from the siren but it disappears into a wiring loom and that splits a bit further down
  17. Hi, i've recently bought a W reg vauxhall frontera and it seems the alarm/immobiliser is run off a different battery to the main battery. Its started beeping at me when i turn it off so i guess it needs changing, does anyone know where the alarm battery is as i cant see it under the bonnet? Thanks
  18. Cheers guys! I'm glad I made it easy to take the blade off now!
  19. well I think its 64 degs (two leading edges off a bucket welded back to back)!
  20. Cheers treequip, thing is i got the wood from work so i'm not too sure what it is, i know it was only cut last week and it does smell like pine!?!?
  21. Well it works! Nothing has broken on it, couldnt see if the timber got stuck on the angle as it tended to "explode" as soon as the blade started to go through! I've got to do some proper testing next week so i'm confident there wont be any probs! I have a video of it, how can i put it on here? Cheers Dave
  22. Cheers guys! I might make an x blade, but that'll be an "after uni" fitting! I was thinking the bits of angle might help the splitting process.... but as you say i'll find out tomorrow, and it can soon come off with the aid of the 9" grinder
  23. Here are the latest pictures: Although i've still got to fit some 90 deg hydraulic fittings to finish it off (and then test it of course!)
