  1. hi all help me solve an argument we had at work today what is the minimum requirement in Kn for carabiners is it 24Kn or is it ten times the weight of the climber? and can you use a 22Kn as ppe, the edelrid one i bought at the weekend started the arguement off
  2. suprise rescues are a good idea we do it now and again especially with our newer climbers. cant remember my assesors name but he said to me that he regularly turns up on a site, stops work and a fake rescue is carried out. this allows him to know they have the right gear with them and they can do it etc etc. definately a good thing someone will know how to put it accross
  3. freaks you out a bit sometimes. sometimes you look stupid, other times its hollow
  4. climbed a medium sized sycamore today in quite strong wind, when it blew in the wind it had a strange feel to it, rather than the normal sway and sway back it had a "bump" or a "nocking" got the tree done useing plan b and then c. once it was down i cut it up and culd see nothing realy wrong (other than half of its roots had been dug out by builders). i have had simmilar in the past. i reacon that 90% of the time when you think there is something wrong from the feel of the tree there is. dose anyone else think the same or am i just going mad

i heard that if it is over the boundry they can cut it of as long as they give you it back. and if that they would be liable if they caused the tree to die from their actions

    bats in trees

thats unworkable you are not knowingly allowed to disturb a bat roost as you say but first you have to know its there if you find evidence of bats then you should come away and get advice from a bat guy

  17. i use a 16 mm kit and a 20 or is it 22 dont know any way the 16 is good and strong the bigger one is heavy and normally we dont use it. depends on how much abuse you want it to take if you have a small dia line you have less cycles to failure

    bats in trees

good look from the ground to identify any potential habitat if there is some thenclimb up and inspect it. if a bat can get in look for crap etc if there is no sign and you can see right in and make sure no bats are there. otherwise its up with an endo scope. a bat can fit in a match box so if there is a hole you could fit your finger in a bat could get in.

    MEWP or Climb

it costs abit more to keep than a chipper and you use a chipper all the time if you baught a small mewp you would need a big one if you baught a big one you would need a small one. short one large one etc etc hire is the way, then you can have the one for the job
