chiper dosn't need to have loler
  3. saw a harvester demo at the cumberland show, they erected some sitka and felled them with it. could you maybe do simmilar but fell and chip into your truck?
  4. three of us done nominated person training two other first aiders as well pluss refreshers when needed i think everyone should be trained then you wouldn't need to worry if you have a first aider or not and its not that big an expence for the benifit it could be.
  5. i would like to think so i think it should be more fully taught as it has to be the hardest rescue and possibly the most likely IMO. as every one above says, i was taught it, but breifly and not asked to do it in assesment.

    bats in trees

and to ensure the tree is not a bat roost (even if its empty) as bats roosts are protected along with the bats. you need a licence to do ANY work on a tree wich shows sign of being used as shelter by bats.

sounds like the one we had it was from them, but we all have mewp tickets so the guy satyed on the ground most of the time
  8. a lad who works for us did his arial rescue etc training recently and either they didnt teach pole rescue or they said he would be one of the last to be taught it as part of that course, and it would become part of dismantleing as that is when you start to use climbing irons lets have your oppinion Should Pole rescue be part of the basic climbers training?

it is IMO, whenever possible i always work with the same blocke in the mewp, i drive he cuts (dont like his driving) but we can go so fast and hardly have to talk nice when things work well but put a different guy in there and it just dosnt flow right

i see in that case i aggree with john it is quick and easy and if you get a real big un that comes with a driver it can also be good, one cutting, one holding, one driving.

there would have been all kinds of issues if climbing we did cut and chuck i think three larger sections got lowered of one tree because it was over the river and to big to throw a climber could have done simmilar for a lot of it but we were doing a tree an hour ish and they were over the height of the roof line of three story town flats (with apex roof on top) two people in the mewp the biggest issue would have been not landing or bouncing bits into the river (clients were strict about that) and the same for the herras fence with traffic the other side of it you would have had to do a good amount of rigging probably 40- 50 % depending on which tree in the mewp push a lever and your directly above the drop zone its just faster oh and i only gave two options in the poll because i wanted to know which one people would go for. not if they would do both, cause clearly both have a place
  16. i picture a cherry almost as you describe but slightly 'weeping' with long thin branches growing down from the crown (kind of) but a dence crown

with the same amount of staff and all the rigging there is NO WAY believe me a five meter strip landing zone with a three meter slope to a six foot drop into the river with nothing alowed in the river and traffic + pedestrians on the other NO WAY the rigging involved would have been emence NO WAY

power shut off for around seven of the trees overhanging meter or two above the lines, a 38 meter mewp can be a good 20 m away from its own base which dosent restrict the drop zone it reached at least three trees without moving and allowed branches to be brought back from down a bank and over the river etc. etc. etc. no one could have climbed them and done it quicker or safer physicaly impossible

we did around 20 very tall limes the other week with a 38m mewp, it took three days. the street was narrow and the traffic management ment a small space to land stuff in. it would have took ages longer climbing and caused far more disturbanc to locals not to mention the dificulty involved in some of the branches if you had been climbing they are a great thing but.... climbing's fun
  21. im wondering if this is a regional differance of oppinion because most cherry trees around us have been pollarded and shaped at various times of their life. or is that the case everywhere
  22. all nesting birds are protected (but for some bizzare reason you can shoot the pigeons all year round for crip protection)
  23. and green i have two new england ropes one hi-vis yellow and a two year older orange the yellow one has gone very dull and the orange still stands out nicely so orange for me and T shirts (they dont catch on everything)
