  1. I can top that.... I have just this morning received a court summons for speeding in January!!

I was doing 56 on a duel carriageway 50 zone! Which I don't mind the points or fine as I was 'making progress'

My problem is, today is the first I've heard about it and I've got to attend court on the 6th of sept as I've failed to inform them who was driving!! Which is a bit hard when today is the first I heard of it!!

So I spoke to them as soon as I opened the letter address to ms Wilkins not Mr Wilkins to find out what was going on!

So they had sent out a fine at some point but I can genuinely say I never received it, as I would have paid up and taken the points no problem

I've sent a guilty plea to the speeding but a not guilty plea for the failure to inform them of the driver!!

    Let's see what happens :-/

    sometimes you just get bitten!

I dont want to be the profit of doom but I had a similar experience, when you go to court for non declaration the speeding offence is not pursued. I got 6 points and £400 fine and apparently that is the norm. Sorry chap and good luck

  2. Those are some long levers there, Crown reduction and re brace. Re inspect bracing in 12months or after an event. As for the amount of reduction without seeing the tree I cant specify.

Or take out the existing bracing ,close of the area and let nature do its thing and give a home to some more bugs etc.

As for the councillor send him/her some press clippings of fatal tree failures, a vote looser this they WILL understand

  3. Hi Chaps,

Have seen a stihl 064 advertised and not having any experience of this model would like to know if anyone has used one and any pro's and cons. availibility of parts and an idea of what you would pay for one in good working condition, and also for a rough one that needs some work ( so i have an idea if i go to look at it)

It should tick all my boxes otherwise, so thanks in advance for any help.

Superb saw bit dated now but at the right price definately

  4. understanding dynamic forces and with in the system including the tree is a must, but first you should be able to judge your weights of the species of tree first, this i understand takes time and alot of revising, but once you can do this then you will be able to judge how much force will be put on a system from eg,

a 200kg log on a 1m drop would be a force of 800kg forces like this will become visible in the system as friction (glazing on rope)

but forces like this can also be lost depending on how you execute the rigging load. eg, would be to make the shock load minimal by letting the rope run and distributing the friction evenly along the rope. adding hardware such as pulleys allows the rope to stretch to its own shape throughout the entire rope used evenly, hardware like a pulley will allow you to lower the dynamic forces compared to natural crotching.

My understanding of the Rigging research by Chris Cowell etc show that in a locked off system the peak forces can be upto 10x mass. Obviously this can be mitigated letting it run.

    Just my 2 pence worth

anyway just an insight but we will get technical later i don't want everyone to fall asleep on the thread just yet....

  5. Not sure I can make it. Shame as there a couple of talks I wanted to hear. ( bloody wedding anniversary)

Come on Arb Talkers get behind this and maybe next year can be bigger (and not conflict with my personal diary) we ll talk about that Paul

  6. In the past I have used a shovel against the roller motor to put pressure onto the ratchet head, it stops the star bit rising out of the bolt head and then slow steady pressure turning the bolt with an assistant adding the pressure on the shovel. This method has got some very mashed up bolts out. Remember if you go down the welding route you will change the temper in the blades so bin those.
