  1. Thanks for the info but I like to know what the book contains before buying it, just so I know I have the info right.
  2. I am searching for info about felling techniques used by the celts, vikings, saxons, and romans. As an avid fan of the past and now studying arb I would like to know how they did it. Does anyone know of any websites, books or anything so I can do a bit of personal research.
  3. it was a case of bad two stroke mix, I opened up the fuel and saw a small amount of bog standard petrol. it has been played with, but I'm gooing to see if I can get it going ok.
  4. I don't mean to sound niaeve about this but I don't know. is there a way of checking?
  5. This is a willow in my friends garden, and it is growing oevr a stream. But just at a bizzare angle.
  6. This is it after a good cleen up, and also after my tutor said it runs fine for all the groundwork I intend for it. It does cut out at low revs but I managed to use it perfectly well to cut up a Leylandii stem that fell in the garden the other week.
  7. Brilliant program! Mrs. Farquar (I think thats her name) has to be one starnge lady.....
  8. Just stripped it down and it looks like it has never been cleaned, given it a good scrub and getting the air compressor on it tomorrow. Everything else looks absolutly fine on the saw apart from a bit of filing down on the bar. Going to get a bit more advice off my tutor about it aswell and see if he has any lying around I can take apart.
  9. why get shot of it? if it's going to cost less to repair than to buy one on my student salary, I may aswell keep it. I need a saw at the moment for low level work.
  10. I stand corrected, it's a 024. with bust piston.
  11. yes I found one, ok it is broken but if I found another one for spares I can get it running. Can anyone advise me on this, eg. if it's wise to do so. And does anyone recommend this saw?
  12. all of these pics are amazing! I now know what to save up for as a holiday!
  13. I'd say thats pretty good music you play there. Do you tour much or is it hard with compromising on work.
  14. Oh come on now, did you have to?
  15. hey Chris, what other metal do you enjoy?

heard of Bury your Dead or Job for a Cowboy?

  16. Nooooooooooo! why did I agree to work in a bar, and why did no one tell me this was happening before! B******ds!
  17. ooo yeah, defo about! I'll speak to rick and the other guys too.

We did our first unpaid work for one of the other guys parents gonna get the pics up soon.

  18. I've only been here since oct, my teachers are Gareth Meadows, Morph (andrew panter), Noel Mackenzie and Jeff Rees.

I am trying to wangle my way into batsford for work especially since the arboritum is two fields behind my house.

  19. rope yourself round the oppostie side the branch is on, but we do have a throw line. most of the trees have a lot low hanging branches which are so easy to step onto.
  20. Well thats 14 years of extra growth since then, so it should be. The cedars are currently out of bounds due to the main hall suffering from a fire. http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_and_entertainment/visual_arts/architecture_and_design/article3599452.ece we have also made sure a correct RPA length has been set out due to builders.
  21. Moreton Morrel, it's part of Warrickshire College and is slowly growing in the Arb section by 2010 they plan on doing full on degree's with the ability to do MSC's and PHD's. It's also affiliated with Coventry Uni.
  22. Looks like me and my fellow arbor students are going to go and have some fun with a few Sequoiadendron Giganteum. A few need deadwooding and a couple have a severe attack of ivy. But I honestly can't wait to get up them.
  23. Heres a bit of damage done in my garden. Strangely enough it a branch that allready has a slpit in it prior to the wind was untouched. The second pic is the slpit branch, just don't have a saw suitable enough to get rid of it yet.
  24. I'm currently doing a presentation on a research paper I found at college which goes into detail about using a thermal imaging camera to see if a tree is suffering from internal decay, when no external sides are visible. Has anyone tried this out or does anyone know of it? Would anyone be interested in trying it out? The Research paper is in the Arboricultural Journal 2008, Vol. 30. It is written by Alessandra Catena and Giorgio Catena.
