  1. dead elm today, a few obstacles. this tree has been dead for about 8 years, really brittol and rubbish for hinges high up, a rubbish high anchor too. not me climbing, i was on hiab and brush duty today, oh and in and out that little burn most of the day. so glad i had my stretch air boots on:thumbup1:
  2. ha ha, thats me upthat tree that is lol
  3. i was working today anyway simon but there are a lot of ash limbs down around our way, farmers fields and council land. it was wild today up here, not fun doing dead elms by the rd
  4. i know there is exact rules and regulations somewhere but it is a definate grey area across the country. this will fire up some folk i am sure, but i ran mogs for about 7 years and never got stopped once, i have been out on jobs with the police for different reasons and they all just wanted to have a go in it and all just took pictures and thought it was cool. i know guys that have broken down on the motorway towing a full load of timber, and the police low loaded them to their yard. no question
  5. i am only going by what i was told and what i did. when i got my mog it was on special vehicles tax. i sent away the log book, it came back ag, then down to the post office, the old deer wasnt to sure and never heard of a unimog, she hummed and hawed a bit then gave me the tax. i even spoke to the head traffic cop for our area. he said its a tractor simples. i never carried anything for hire or reward. all the chip got tipped for nothing and all the logs were given away. i even got a visit from environmental health one day on site about a report we were fly tipping, (we had thrown an old magpie nest into some bushes) he looke at the mog, i asked if i needed a waste liscence, he didnt know. he called me back the next day and said no. if i was told differently at any of these times i would of done what they had said
  6. send away the log book, simple. then off to the post office for your free tax
  7. we dont do dawn, we do breky , brunch, lunch make a few hundred quid and then go home for 3pm:thumbup:
  8. i think it looks cool andy, get it ag and let the cherry flow:001_cool:
  9. high scale having a rant, holy moly, its not like you mate, you must have good reason too. it would be ashame not to show off your pics, i thought they were awesome. proper lumberjack stuff i thought.
  10. hamerite has healing qualities i heard he he, better stop now. lol
  11. these machines dont make jobs quicker really, it just gives a 1 man mand the ability to carry out jobs i think. if the chipper is big then yes, drag it out. but even being able to chip it say at the tree then all the mess is in the one area, not all down the paths and driveway and street. i chipped a huge pile of brash yesterday and it fitted into a wheely bin. i saw a transit wheely bin collection van a few years ago in autotrader, that would of been great for this. it has limitations like any machine. some days this will be too small and a pest, other days it is perfect. another tool in the arsenal. the greenmech suits me because i have a dealer less than 20miles away and there salesman lives in my town, so its perfect. i prefer the jobeau size tbh. looks a lot lighter and easier to manouvere than mine aswell. but certainly the price on the day with peteb was excellent. i dont know if the little yellow one will reach a wheely bin though.
  12. i can just see all the bulk bags of chip and firewood sitting in your sone garden centre andy:thumbup1:
  13. the chainsaw was worth nothing to the old boy, it probably worried him that his son might even try and use it. a load of firewood is worth about 140quid. so the old boy got 140 quid for it. he got rid of something he didnt want and got something he did. i have been given umpteen saws by customers, some old and knackered some good as new, i tell them what it is worth to me, if they want to do a deal then they will. i have laods of new saws, i dont need any more but the last one i took off a guy because he was scared of it, so i knocked 50quid off the job, then i sold it to a dad from my kids nursery. for 50quid. i gave him a quick lesson and told him he could get it when he bought safety kit, he did and he has had it for about a month and hasnt used it because he is scared of it. so imight have some brand new safety kit going cheap. ha ha. i just sold my crane for a quarter of the price it was worth, i didnt see anyone offering me the full whack so i didnt get taken for a ride lol
  14. is that really yours andy? nice one mate. micro chipper and a big lifter. are you copying someone me thinks:sneaky2:
  15. i cant beleive that [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oVEegMg3SVk]YouTube - Cilla Black - Surprise Surprise[/ame]
  16. no mozza, their are plenty of door to door rip off merchants up here, they pass through, leave a carnage of crap jobs and full laybys of junk..but every trade and salesman in diferent. if i salesman knocked my door with nothing but a brief case and things to be signed then i would chase him. if a young lad turned up, with a trailer load of logs and some bags and ofered me firewood. i could go outside and see the product, have a bit of a haggle and leave with the logs. if he asked me to pay for 2 ton money upfront and these logs were just the demo logs then he would be a rip off merchant..i know what you mean, and i know what i mean, but as usual text will be spoiling it for both parties at their side of the screen. lol
  17. nothing to do with being a firefighter mate, i deleted my comment saying 'up yourself' but obviously too late. so i apologise. the no insurance thing is a big thorn in our sides. we bust our guts paying all our business bills and usually this means going without i other parts of our lives, well it has with me at some point.. you posted asking for advice, we are giving you it, it isnt what you want to hear, but hey thats life. i would of thought in your job you would see what can happen accidentally more than anyone. even if the insurance is 1500quid a year, that snot even 30quid a week, pay it in monthly instalments, they will want another 6% for this, if you get a credit card with zero% interest then stick it on that, there are ways. if you are earning at the weekends and getting work then this is buttons in the grand scale of things. there might be other guys on the forum that are in your position and maybe agree with what you are doing, you just got us guys that do the most posting, and you have got off lightly tbh, there are guys on here just now that are really struggling to hold their business together, they will be paying wages and ALL their bills and i bet they wont be taking any wages from themselves and running in big overdrafts. no bullying here. just honesty:001_smile:
  18. its got nothing to do with not being full time, insurance is there to protect us and the public. what about all the un insured drivers out there, what if they crashed into you or your wife and you had to stop work to look after each other and there was no pay out. and you lost your house and everything that you owned to try and pay bills..
  19. nothing wrong with knocking a door looking for work, if you are offering a good honest service. its only if you rob them blind and wreck their property that you become o one of the aforementioned wrong ens..
  20. if you dont have insurance then you shouldnt be doing it, simples. imo.
  21. i am totally lost now, i will back out now. good luck:001_smile:
