  1. Sadly, show a lot of us Brits something green and pleasesant and knuckle dragging dummies like this want to lob litter all over it. It's ingrained into UK society, with no easy answers to rectify things.
  2. I've used an Alpine Magnum to grind a 30" hardwood stump out, and it has to be said it did a pretty sterling job; they make a lot of budget handlebar machines look weedy in comparison, and are very portable. Occasionally you can pick em up for under £2K, keep an eye on arb sites / Ebay. Maybe overpriced at £3K plus new though! Edit...christ, where did that thread go?? The bloke who was asking about Alpine Magnum
  3. Response to Mr Ed again..fair comment? When I see ads for "arborists wanted, £80 per day" (or less), I realise that generally tree surgery isn't that well paid considering you are literally risking your neck...evidently a job you do out of love unless you are running your own outfit
  4. Mr Ed - you guys are going to see a lot more baffling posts like this if what I see and hear in Kent is anything to go by? Local HPTC chainsaw and arborist trainers / testers are flat out (Recession??) and maybe because a lot of mature males are realizing that staring at a PC screen or factory walls all week ain't living, and being out in natural surroundings is...I'm 39 and also looking for groundie work, I hacked it for 3 months in Sydney, and I'd still do it now rather than earn 40k in an office, any day.
  5. Prices on Ebay for used saws are incredible - I bought a spanking new 346XP from the States thinking "great, i'll shave 100 off UK retail", but... the guy sent it in the Husky box without wrapping, so Customs were all over it, and though I'd asked him to send as a "commercial sample", that doesn't wash if its worth a 3 figure sum so add nearly 70 for Import duty - stick with new, and British? Used is not worth the grief
