  1. I heard of a similar story a few years back a local farmer did exactly the same thing but the only problem been he never told his wife - 1 night the fireplace exploded:001_tt2:
  2. I have noticed an increase in folk selling firewood, the problem been that there is plenty demand but the supply is getting hard to find The purchase of log burning stoves, woodburners etc. has now come to the point where a waiting list is now standard procedure. Upto 6 months from some vendors purchasers have been imformed Also the massive wood burning power plant at a place called Lockerbie (you will have heard of that for obvious reasons) does not help the supply situation either Sawmills have no demand for any building materials at present so they are now focused on the firewood market as it is the only possible means of income in the current financial climate As seasoned wood is getting harder to source some suppliers are selling anything from pallet wood to old fencing materials to mix in with freshly cut timber My personal view in months to come is any wood required for the firewood market is going to be very hard to source
  3. I used to work on with wooden sawhorses, but watching my brother inlaw 1 day he puts 2 lengths on the ground and cuts lengths on top of them,i can see his idea no lifting on and off the sawhorse and like myself not catching it all the time with the saw So now i use his method much easier and less strain on the back and it does not matter how many grooves you put in the lengths you are cutting on as they will be to cut anyways and can be very easily replaced.
  4. nice vehicle parked next to the logs i see
  5. The wood had been harvested by a sub contractor and it was stacked in lengths by the side of a track behing padlocked gates
  6. Just come off the phone from a mate who lives down in wales-he works for the forestry commision and was saying the theft of harvesrted timber i.e ash, beech down there is now a major problem, padlocks damaged, gates smashed just to retieve a bit of wood
  7. Thats cheap for a load of firewood,a local merchant is selling a nissan cabstar load (not well heaped up either) for 140
  8. damn awful stuff to split with an axe, seems to have bark upto an inch thick, but once seasoned burns aswell as most hardwoods

After looking for about the last 6 weeks on ebay, autotrader, adtrader and numerous other websites i have decided to buy this vehicle http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MITSUBISHI-L200-PICKUP-TRUCK-4WORK-2004-DOUBLE-CAB_W0QQitemZ110319287240QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAutomobiles_UK?hash=item110319287240&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2%7C65%3A7%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318 Have bought it for 2850 which at 4 years old (fair enough highish milage) seems reasonably priced and it is localish and is just what i am looking for been in the timber trade..........any comments greatfully recieved
  13. Thanks for all the advice folks,i am watching on ebay but i think the price can only get cheaper for these type of vehicles coming up to christmas(1 hopes) ,and anything prior to march 2001 is going to be exempt from the higher tax bracket supposedly
  14. Reading paper today could not believe the price ??????? had to be far to cheap, never the less rang about it tonight was sold to a guy from preston as i spoke to the old dear on the phone-turned out to be a geniune retired farmers pickup, local to me aswell annoyed is not the word as that is the type of vehicle im after http://www.farmersguardian.com/classified_details.asp?adcode=409196
  15. My most recent purchase was the husky 353 plenty of poke and lightweight aswell-cost 317 + vat i also have a husky 141 and 357 xp,used to have a 61 but found it way to heavy and numb for my liking

  17. Had a drive up the delectible M74 last night to view a nissan navara 51 plate priced at 2500 Guy said on phone it was the older style shape and the advert did say 60,000 miles when we found the place and where driving down the lane my ligkts lit up the navara sitting there My heart sank when i noticed immedietly that it was the new shape with the dodgy engine 75,000,miles on the clock (not 60 ?) clean machine, chap would sell it for 2250 and no less with no vat needed a towbar and new loadliner i did not buy it...........an error on my behalf perhaps have been looking at the older style 1 108000 miles 51 plate very tidy crew cab 2 new rear tyres 11 months mot ,6 months tax he wants 3000 for it i offered 2500 he would come down to 2800 no less no vat i have declined that as well it is stiil for sale,is the older 1 worth buying at that or should i wait until the new year as they might get cheaper ??????

  21. I am thinking of upgrading my vw caddy pickup up to a crewcab pickup as recently purchasing a 14ft ifor williams flatbed trailer preferebly need something to pull it and take the family aswell The nissan navara allways seemed tempting and browsing ebay there seemed to be a few bargains about especially from the 02 plate onwards (new shape) But after reading several drivers reports, forums and even a watchdog programme had summerised the faults-i decided not to venture any further Turns out that the new models from 2002 onwards have suffered from severe engine faults, timing chains snapping etc:thumbdown: A relation of mine has the 2000 (x plate) previous model basic pickup model it has done well over 100,000 miles hardly been serviced and worked very hard pulling a 12ft cattle trailer most days,it is still going strong Looking at the evidence i will try and buy the earlier model as it seems a lot more reliable and trustworthey Has any body else had experiences with the delectable navara
  22. I agree with the 88man,some local farmers are willing to get rid of some timber preferebly fallen trees, limbs or branches.have you any relations or friends that are farmers,i am lucky enough to have access to a few farms, have use of a quad bike and trailer(which is advisable the weather of late) and have my own massey 550 tractor and tipping trailer for shifting bigger loads in drier conditions.Have you any properties near that collect green waste from tree surgeons, council etc.they often get loads of timber aswell.I collect from a place where the wood is more of a pest as it cannot be recycled into mulch unless put through a shredder and most is cut into nice lengths for discing and splitting-the downside is none is seasoned unless it was a dead tree.I have also come across some bizarre types aswell monkey puzzle eucholyptus (excuse my spelling) rhodedendreon ????? but also some good stuff beech, oak, birch and the usual poor end, pine, lelandi, poplar hope this advice is of help
  23. Thanks for that Zep look forward to hearing from you
