  12. My late father used to put sugar and diesel on tha parkray to get it going along with alot of swearing
  13. i heard a very strange way today how to clean flue of soot etc. Apparently this chap reckoned if you burn the odd empty beer tin it contains certain materials that when burned clears the chimney of soot, tar etc 1st time i have heard of this but saying that when i go to visit an aunt and uncle who are farmers when he provides the odd can or 2 of boddys he says just throw them onto the fire when you are finished??????
  14. Thanks for that advice folks it has put my mind at rest,i was starting to get a little worried about the curious smell,i have a carbon monoxide sensor fitted aswell as the smoke alarms and it has not made a squek
  15. Having fishishing installing a dunsley highlander 5 this afternoon there seems to be a strange smell developing and the smoke alarm has gone off,is it normal to experience what i persume is the newness of the burner with the new materials inside....any advice gratefully recieved
  16. i know the chap who is selling the navara very well-he is a dealer say no more???????
  17. To be honest i would have a pre 2002 navara with the chain driven engine You only have to look on ebay to see what prices they are making:confused1: 2500 upwards for a tidy 1 I know this may sound stupid but while trying to buy 1 a year ago any 4x4 crewcab on the same redg now is making more money a year older:confused1: I just find the L200 a bit sluggish off the mark and not very econimcal i.e between 24-28 per gallon
  18. Having ran the l200 for 11 months i have been offered almost what i paid for it last year its on a 54 plate I have the chance to buy a navara crewcab 04 plate 88000 miles with new engine fiited 12 months ago courtesy of local nissan garage 3000 for cash no vat Some reports suggest thst the navaras have a better fuel consumption than l200,s and have a better pulling ratio compared to the mitsubishi There again you here about sob stories about navaras i.e clutches, brakes etc. I have been impressed with the l200 over the past year it had done 107,000 when i bought it now on 114,500 and i have replaced the battery, starter motor, cambelt and it cost 65 to put through mot.......just curious to ask advice on which vehicle to have-the 1 i know or the 1 to buy????????? any advice gratefully recieved
  19. Having recently purchased a new woodburner i was wondering if they can be fitted onto a marble hearth with surround (the wood burner is to big to fit within the chimney breast so it will be external to the fireplace) I am looking on ebay and there are plenty fireplaces for sale but is marble heat resistent to the woodburner
  20. Thanks for the advice folks,i will remove the cover tomorrow and have a further investigation.
  21. There was a battey fitted but i removed it and tryed the battery off my pickup which is only a month old
  22. Having just purchased the model TT85G at a farm sale at the weekend i was trying out the electric tipping set up. But by pressing the button there are just a few clicking sounds coming from just behind the switch, the hand pump works fine but having the electric working would be a bonus Just wondering if anyone else has had any experience of these trailers IFOR WILLIAMS TRAILER TIPPER TIPPING ( DIGGER DUMPER ) on eBay (end time 24-Oct-09 18:25:39 BST)
  23. In my experience with tractors older masseys and ford were useless at driving splitters due to the oil flow, internationals and especially leylands have a far superior oil flow
  24. I have recently been buying my wood from a local estate mainly sycamore, alder, birch, oak the ash and beech are kept for the big mansion i was told by the estate maintainence chap that a big ash tree had fallen a year ago and some 1 had offered them 100 quid for it. He said go and have alook and tell me what its worth, the trunk is 4ft+ truth be known its a hell of a size so ive bought it for 130,i will take some pictures and try and put them on withtin the next few days Its going to be a long drawn out process moving it,probably months tractor and trailer job i think but for that price i cant complain.
  25. riverbanks are 1 of the most popular places to find alder it grows well in damp boggy conditions which makes retrieving the stuff rather difficult ive got hundreds to drop on a relations farm but not until after jan 31st as of the delectable pheasant shoot-and you guessed it all alongside the river i recently scoured a small clump of alder and came accross about 10 standing that had died, they were that dry when i dropped them they broke into about 4 pieces, what i tend to do is mix it with other wood when burning,it gets the fire going well,to somefolk it is a weed but like most woods when seasoned will do the job
