  1. That's incorrect mate on a standard driving licence 'Category B vehicles may be coupled with a trailer up to 750kgs MAM (allowing a combined weight up to 4.25 tonnes MAM) or a trailer over 750kgs MAM provided the MAM of the trailer does not exceed the unladen weight of the towing vehicle, and the combination does not exceed 3.5 tonnes MAM'. therefore if you have B+E 'Category B+E allows vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes MAM to be combined with trailers in excess of 750kgs MAM. I' order to gain this entitlement new category B licence holders have to pass a further practical test for category B+E. There is no category B+E theory test. For driver licensing purposes there are no vehicle/trailer weight ratio limits for category B+E.' therefore a 3.5 ton trannie can tow a 3 ton trailer if you wish. this info is of the dvla website. I was lucky and got mine through work and it's been a big bonus
  2. how old are they? there is evidence that rowan planted in small roadside verges decline quite rapidly once they reach about 10 years old, the evidence points to the culprit being tarmac causing a build up of heat underground in the summer, this coupled with drought problems could be the cause. Any chance of pics was also thinking Fire blight? causes leaves and flowers to whither and die the ends of the twigs also begin to hook round and look scorched.
  3. I'd put money on ganoderma prob adspersum/applanatum
  4. I agree on the filling cap it was removed '' accidently lost'' one day.
  5. you are all too kind. too put your mind at rest SWB the saw had finished for the day so no need to switch back to on. the saw was well maintained and well used and the fuel can was sat on a tussock of grass - hope this helps.
  6. cheers it is one of my favourites.
  7. I drink plenty of fluids approx 5 - 6 litres of water and include a glass of water with fluid replacement salt eg dioralyte this prevents dehydration. if you also try to take regular breaks in the shade and also take off your trousers when having a break this will help prevent passing out
  8. you can get some kit, treeworks are one of the sponsors and usually DPS denbigh plant services and Corwen forestry have stalls at the show
  9. Anyone going to Woodfest wales? The event runs on the 5th 6th and 7th of june in St Asaph North wales. anyone interested in the Pole Climb comp needs to enter Asap, application forms and all other details of the event can be found at Woodfest Wales, St Asaph. This is a small but enjoyable event with all the usual events and exhibitors/tradestands.
  10. looks complicated to me, i don't get it, surely a val de'tain on your main line does exactly the same.
  11. powermate is non standard equipment therefore could be interfering with the clutch. ie a slight discrepancy in the clutch maybe compounded by the powermate.
  12. as opposed to what...... non see through windows????
  13. saw one of those once it was a watchamacallit and it was used as a widgeriemoo. they are extremely saught after by people in the industry and originals can fetch lots of money the most i've seen one go for was 20k but that was an original by wally williams from fife he makes the best - he's like the van gough of the watchamacallit world
  14. new england ropes for me I found marlow and yale ropes need a lot of milking. Try a few of your workmates if you can and see what feels good for you. New england HIVEE at the mo is my favourite.
  15. the daldinia only being on dead/dying timber covered large proportions of the tree however it appeared to radiate upward and outward from the point of the base where the bracket is growing. the position of the bracket was what suggested to me it wasn't hispidus and while ganoderma are more commonly found on beech I was drawn to that by it's appearance and the fact it appears to be perrenial.
  16. found this on a roadside ash covered in daldinia concentrica the tree is down for felling asap due to size and location. I found this bracket at the base of the tree and am a bit puzzled i suspected inonotus hispidus but am pretty sure it isn't as the bracket appears to have annual rings like ganoderma which was another suspect any help appreciated.
  17. MR bundle to clarify I already have a national diploma in countryside management (merit), HNC in small woodland management and arboriculture and 6 years experience as a senior climber and 10 years working in both amenity trees and the utillity sector, so while I do not have a degree I am suitably qualified, I also have a thirst for knowledge and do a lot of reading off my own back.
  18. I am currently working as a tree inspector for a county council highways partnership carrying out VTA's on roadside trees and am being put on the above course, I wondered if anyone has done it and can help with any info about what's covered. I have quite good knowledge about fungi etc and can recognise the most common ones. I know this is tested in the course but wondered if you need to know loads of different ones also how in depth do they test other pest/diseases.
  19. sometimes i try and off set the anchor so i can lean out on the back of the branch with the rope out in front, that way you can lean right back and are not being pulled off the top of the branch your walking out on. you can also then use both hands to grab ot for other branches etc to get further out because the anchor and your position on the branch holds you in place.
  20. i've got a weirauch HW77k underlever in .22 and love it I bought it 2nd hand for £70 with scopes in mint condition with the original book. it's really quiet and have shot loads of rabbits with it. One rabbit witnessed by a friend was taken at 50m using a lamp in the back of the head, the rabbit jumped about 4ft in the air and fell where it dropped Perfect.
  21. wasn't deliberate at all got a caught up by a phone call about crap from the mrs was only gone about 2 mins and this happened gutted..... and guess who got blamed.......only joking but living with a 3 and 6 year old you can soon end up in a situation like that:scared1:
  22. My thoughts exactly hence highways have been notified and an enforcement notice issued to the landowner. I can understand keeping the tree if it were in open parkland with few people spending any length of time around it but where the target is high they have to come out or someone could be killed.
