  1. the thin line goes to the insulator..probably just an anchor for the line as the pole is quite a distance away...I'm no expert though...but there were no power lines there mate. Not sure what the thick line is for...I'm sure someone will know though.

absolutely. All the stems leaned out and away from each other, they were so far apart that using the centre stem for the lower larger parts of the trunks and felling the tops of the outside stems or catching them below the feet was how we did it at the time. I'll be honest, and it's probably clear to see from my pics, that our rigging was probably not up to the standard that is on display on this forum.

People picking holes in it is one of the reasons for sharing these pics...feel free to do so, I won't take anything to heart. He used to work for Roy Finch a loooong time ago.. Looking at them again it does look like the best anchor point was taken down first, but some of the tops on the outside were felled out, trunks dismantled, and the right hand group of stems were all completely lowered off a different anchor point as the rear lawn was right underneath. It's a while ago now so can't remember the specifics...just the butterfly's.

Stuart Blunsom Tree Care...It does look like that but it's set back, it was used however to dismantle some of the trunks...
  5. I was googling harnesses and google supplied a link to the harnesses thread in climbing talk.
  6. I think in the very near future select branches will have shut down completely, it's hard to see in the pics but some branches are doing okay whilst others have very little foliage on them. would aeration and a feed benefit it.??..common snese says yes but I would hate to get their hopes up without actually knowing I'm doing the right thing.
  7. few more Any advice on course of action would be appreciated also.
  8. My neighbour has a blue cedar in their back garden, not very big. Up until last year it was a healthy tree but this year it seems to be struggling. I always promised to clean it out at some point but am loathe to do so now as it is very thin. I have taken some pictures and would appreciate any idea's anyone has, as to why it appears to be suffering. many thanks.

    onto the dismantling..
  12. rupes old pics thread has inspired me to dig out a disc I had with some pics from when I first started climbing... quick bit of history, it's a huge sycamore at Birdlip and I'd been working with the firm for about a year as a groundsman. We started by felling the back stems out over the back of the garden down into a small valley and clearing with the tractor/winch and then moved onto dismantling the stems over the garden side. We had a lad with us who had started at the same time as me but had been climbing for a different firm for a while beforehand. Our main climber at the time, Phil, started it off and after lunch on the 2nd or 3rd day (memory is fuzzy) the boss asked the lad if he wanted a go...he didn't fancy it and turned it down and I just knew the gaffer would then turn to me and ask...I'd already made my mind up to grab the opportunity with both hands..(proud moment for me) I had done the odd garden tree, small acacia's, cherry's etc but nothing with any girth to it. On with the pics...words can't express how much I enjoyed this job, and the looks/thumbs up the boss and Phil were giving me...good times.
  13. well spotted, but no I didn't tie off the wires, thanks for the tip though ..from what I remember they were a couple of feet away from the trunk...tbh as close as they looked, they weren't much of an issue. thanks for nice comments, and yes the idea of going up and down the steps a few hundred times the next day wasn't the best...
  14. svensk tradvard skybelt. will be purchasing a replacement at the APF show in a few weeks...hopefully there will be an opportunity to try a few out, as I am a real creature of habit and love the one I have. Probably end up just getting the cresto ks 01...can't make my mind up on the sliding d's though at the moment.
  15. aye, she forgot that pic. Plenty of sawdust to clear up, should have sheeted it up tbh but after the tree was removed she had loads of landscape work being carried out due to all the subsidence the tree had caused. We couldn't avoid all the logging up as we had to cut and split everything due to the access being too narrow to carry out anything more than an armful at a time..
  16. last few...comments welcome...as long as it's not about the groundie's lack of face protection..
  17. still some left.......
  18. Here is a small eucalyptus I dismantled earlier in the year. We very rarely take photo's of our work but this day the customer was snapping away throughout the job and presented us with a disk at the end with all the photo's on. It's in Worcester, that's the Cathedral you can see in the background in some of the pics. We slabbed and split all the logs, stacked the brash to return the next morning and carry both the brash and logs down 2 flights of ancient stone steps..very, very, awkward access at this job but you can't have everything.
  19. pics look great.....what was lunch like?
  20. we tested a timberwolf before we bought the jensen...both great machines imo. Jensen just edged it on performance. We haven't had it long though so time will tell on reliability etc
  21. surely the day rate of an arborist in a different area of the country is not going to help. I would have thought the time and kit are the important factors.
  22. 2 days for 3 or 4 men/1 day for 7 or 8 + TM...everyone's day rate is different so everone's price is going to be different.
  23. great comment, and probably the most accurate statement in the thread so far. Fantastic pictures, thanks for sharing.
