  1. Lovely. I reckon that'll clean up nicely and make a decent Bill Hook.
  2. So it looks like Spring is springing here. Albeit a bit early, it seems to me.
  3. Ah, knew I'd seen the pearl of wisdom somewhere.
  4. British Gas sees profits increase 10-fold WWW.BBC.CO.UK The company managed to recover losses of £500m it made during the height of the energy crisis.
  5. You've got it all mixed up boyo. The increase in forest fires that we're seeing is nothing to do with Climate Change, it's just because of all those pesky arsonists. (Well, that's what I read on here anyway, in relation to the fires in Greece last year).
  6. That'll be useful when you pull up on Mrs Miggins small suburban drive, and she'll be really impressed.
  7. Completely. Probably the old pickup size is inversely proportional to pecker size.
  8. Half the people, the posers, that drive pickups don't need the off-road capability anyway. A van would surely be more practical in those cases.
  9. Dare I mention Degrowth? Maybe it's time to sack off the idea that GDP is king. Degrowth can work — here’s how science can help WWW.NATURE.COM Wealthy countries can create prosperity while using less materials and energy if they abandon economic growth as an...
  10. Radio 2 are playing a load of good Wrighty clips today. As they should be to honour the legend. I've just been chuckling at Sid the Manager, forgot all about him.
  11. I don't have much experience with Elwell, but the edges on all the Brades tools I have are great. They easily take a razor sharp edge and hold it for ages. Talking of sharpening, I use a Grunsfors "Axe Stone" for axes. They make easy, quick work of it as you can do a nice circular motion over the edge. Not cheap though, like anything Grunsfors, but worth it.
  12. Never found rust to be much of a problem, maybe as the old tools were quality, high carbon steel. I don't do anything to mine and they only ever suffer from very light surface rust. Which can be easily removed with wire wool, though I don't normally bother and they cut just fine if the edge is sound.
  13. Why is the UK stalling on plans for a bottle deposit scheme? WWW.EURONEWS.COM Deposit schemes have led to high rates of return in countries across Europe but in the UK they have caused division between...
  14. Result! Fly tipping is a scourge in the countryside around any city these days. Proper piss boiler. 'I guarantee we get fly-tipping every week' - Warwickshire farmer WWW.BBC.CO.UK Adam Beaty, a farmer condemns fly-tipping after blocking offenders in the act.
  15. Agree, to a point. Make stuff in smarter, cleaner, closer to home ways. Technology is only a part, (minor part), of the solution though. That's another misconception: that it's the silver bullet that's going to sort everything. It's the politician's favourite. Bottom line is we need to drastically reduce overconsumption of stuff. Consume smarter, consume less, waste less stuff.
  16. At least they're largely vegetarian.
  17. Gutted. I wonder if it was something to do with his almost retirement. RIP
  18. The old "it's not us gov, it's China. Or it's Africa with it's exploding population", is getting a bit too old and tired now. It's a cop out. We in the UK do have a fair bit of agency, in this at least. It's not all outside our control. Who buys most of the Chinese crap that sucks up resources and pumps out pollution? The West. Who consumers most of the products that the rainforest is cut down to produce? The West. And so on.
  19. Problem solved. Isn't it? The magic dog shit fairy comes along to clear it up, plus the additional plastic pollution.
  20. Another one who "didn't realise they were dangerous". Gotta love the old US gun laws. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-68223118
  21. And he has an impressive array of gold.
  22. I'll always remember when a colleague of mine proudly proclaimed "that's it, the garden is "Done"". Having just completed a load of makeover work to make it as hard, straight and sterile as humanly possible. I didn't have the heart to tell him that it would still be plagued by weeds again in a years time ...............
  23. Nah, they're probably too busy with this: Cuckoo Tracking Project WWW.BTO.ORG The Cuckoo Tracking Project has been revealing new discoveries about how British Cuckoos migrate, and the challenges they...
  24. Plus, in all the gardens I've seen plastic membranes used, they start to breakdown after a few years. Making it almost impossible to completely remove the horrible stuff. Another one for the banning list, (In domestic settings at least.), along with plastic turf.
  25. Good call. No idea about the top of the tree, I'll try to get some more photos tomorrow.
