Avoid Haix at all costs. I had a pair, they split after 3 months, cost me £200 and Workware whom I believe are the suppliers of Haix refused to honour the warantry. I have had cheaper boots last years. No risk seem to be a good choice at the right money

I can see both points of view. My initial opinion is that it is too close to the wall and so will only cause problems in the long run so be cost effective to fell now rather than pollard then fell at a later date.

I believe the AA and Lantra run consultancy courses from begining to advanced. There is also a tree hazard evaluation proforma called THREATS which is another course that deems you qualified to rate the hazards of individula trees. Hope this helps Rob

Anyone else suffer with a dislocating shoulder ??

First disclocated mine back in 2000. First op in 2005, second in 2007 and third booked in for later this year. Tree work, rugby and shoulders do not mix!! I gave up the climbing and got subbys in to do it for me. Financially that wasnt geat to be honest but it keeps me involved in Arb. -

Hi I am interested in a saw mill. Similar to an alaskan mill. The chainsaw it comes with has a power unit at both ends of the bar. The bar is about 31 inches long. At the minute it doesnt run, it has sat for quitye some time but I really fancy this bit of kit and a go at milling some of the timber I fell?? Any ideas what I should offer? Thanks:001_cool:

Where abouts are you in the midlands?? If you are studying at Warwickshire college theres a company nearby called Byrne Landscaping and Tree Surgery. Tree Surgeon Warwick, Landscapers Leamington Spa Hes a mad kiwi... I worked with him for about 18 months. He'll graft you hard but hes a good guy! He might be able to give you abit of work from time to time. -
I have done a fair bit of contract maintenance. 2 acres could be cut quite quickly with the right mower. My initial reaction is mowing can be viable as it is a regular source of work. The finish of grass is quite a key factor to the quote but to be honest I dont think people will pay more than £150 for that type of work. Be cautious of buying a mower specifically for that one job though.....I did the same thing for a contract on a golf course, only to be gazumped by a transit driving individual who was selling soemthing called 'lucky heather!!!' Hope this helps

I have been asked to quote a detailed Survey of approx 60 semi to mature trees, Sycamores, Ash, Beech etc etc.....Some of which would need a climbing inspection following an order of work from Network Rail for one of my clients. Can anyone give me a guide to priceing the job? How much do you think??? I have done individual tree inspections and surveys before but nothing of this size or nature. Needless to say I want the Job!!! Thanks for your help in advance!!

Im interested in gearing more towards consultancy. What gadgets are there that measure the height of trees, and also the decay in trees, root mapping etc etc.... Im skint aswell so reasonabally priced ones pleased, not these high tech gadgets that are about a grand Thanks Rob

I'm on a salamander which works for me but I have been looking at the ones from Petzl. They look and feel good but I have never climbed on them so couldnt say more than that

Hi guys. My Greenmech Ecochip was stolen from outside a Travelodge at Thrussington Leicestershire on friday 20-03-09. Im digging out the number as we speak but its done approx 400 hours, its a 2002 machine. There are a couple of distinguishing factors such as the handle on the funnell has been broken and re welded on and painted with red oxide. Also there is a split in the battery cover about 12inches long and the offside rear light cluster does not work. Any info would be great. [email protected] 07888826176. REWARD!!

Thats a valid point. I remember when I first started as a groundsman, if you saw a arborist working your area that week is was abit of a shock, now I see 3 or 4 a day usually. Dont like to be pessamistic but sooner or later they'll be no trees left

You might try the Princes Trust. They help guys get into careers and some years ago now they gave me a no interest loan to help out with some arb courses. Good luck with it RWTS
