A good tip would be to never mix up receipts. i,e, everything on a receipt should be either work related or not. So, when buying fuel done add fags and crips on the same card, try and use spending money for that. That way the bottom line on the receipt is tax deductable, you dont have to seperate out the other items. That way, when you buy new chains and files and add a stihl T shirt you are more likey to get away with putting that through cos all your receipts are one or the other, they wont get in the habit of checking every receipt to see whats on it. Similarly if you go to tescos for food shopping and add some t shirts you probably wouldnt put hat amount through because the main purchase was domestic. They only check if you get investigated of course but its a good habbit to get into.

Only used mine about three times, its ok but its just a block, looks great and feels nice. Never really had a problem with rough edges on ISC blocks so I dont think theyh are a cure for anything. The ratign is so high on them though, it doesn't feel right! Almost like using 10mm spectra webbing as an anchor point, you know its rated high enough but you still feel better using old school inch webbing with the same rating. The small DMM has the same (approx) rating to the big yellow ISC one but I still prefer to have that big MF at the highest and final rigging point. Maybe for blocking down I would switch it out and use the DMM instead, maybe thats where it will come into its own league?? Not had that opportunity yet. So when I have used it as a part of a multi block set up I tend to have it as the final block. i.e the lowering point, that way if it is any better at tending the rope then it will get a chance to do so. I think that a full set up of DMM blocks would just be too expensive, more blocks (distributing load) is better than less but stronger blocks, so a good selection is ideal. We now have four ISC and the one DMM plus redirect pulleys, i will have to try and get them all up one tree one day! four is my record so far!

Yes, sounds better. Shame he cant just employ you on the books, save a lot of a hassle. All he need to do is work out a holiday allowance and adjust the pay accordingly so you get paid less but spread over the year so you are still paid when on holidays. But whatever works for you, claim as much as you can!

Sounds like a plan! I'm not overly bothered, I picked up 2.5K of work in one visit to a new customer, so identifying this thing is only a side question. It will be felled if it doesn't put some growth on pretty quickly! She's waterign it for now! Yes, she does think she knows what it is becasue someone else has told her, so she thinks she will recognise the name if she hears it, but the person who told her might not be right! The last person who worked on it appears to have thinned it to within an inch of its life anyway! Also she cant get the name of the three boys and three dogs right, its all Tarquins and Felixs running around, chaos, you know the sort!

In response to ricky26wales None of that makes any sense. You say your paying tax already but you havn't done a tax return yet? And its just your first year? How come your paying tax already? And you say you have a boss? Are you really self employed?? You never get any tax back or any pay out?? I dont underastand what your situation is, unless your boss is making deductionn under some kind of CIS type scheme. DO you work 5 days a week for him? Do you get a pay slip or do you invoice him for work done? PM me if you feel happier to do so.

Just looking in my book, the indian bean tree is what I call catalpa but there are others. Is it just the IBT that has the big seed pods?? This one looks like a hybrid catalpa and that explains the reddish purple leaves, but the leaves ideally should be much bigger, maybe thats a further sympton of decline. Could the frosts be part of the problem? This tree is in a very exposed garde and all the Bay trees there have been lost this winter.

MMmm, catalpa was one of my guesses but the customer didn't think so. Its a much smaller leaf than I have seen on catalpas before, and there reddish colour is unusual to me. Also the customer says she has not seen any beans on it??

This tree is not doign too well, overpruned and on the edge of a lawn with small wall down to lower level behind it so not much water. What leaves there are are a bit shrivelled so you cant see the full shape, but they are redish in colour. Any ideas??

Was it just the one tree? The one behind looked well enough, could have made a nice anchor point?

Paul, you could help your self to my softwood pile, or we could sort out some decent logs in the winter when I get round to logs again but I dont have very much and lots of old ladies to look after first.
