  1. If you get 90% of the quotes and do the work 90%+ quicker than the competitors would then your doing ok. Winning quotes and doing the job slower is pointless but you never really know how long someone else would take.
  2. Bit obsessed with swimming atm tbh! Started just over 5yrs ago, couldn't swim a length of the pool front crawl. I progressed very fast and did well in some swim events. My speed has stayed the same for a year or so but I've upped my distances and speed is increasing. Looking to hit the lakes this summer with an average pace of 1:35/100m which puts me in the lead pack of most swimmers of my age. Not all of course there's always one who wins by miles!!
  3. Not read the thread but my excersise these days is mostly swimming. 4 times a week, try and get that to 10km a week and will shift up to more in summer when it's open water time again. It's the only thing that doesn't hurt (at 47). And then cycling on Sundays weather permitting at the moment but again that will go up in the summer. Oh and a pt session every other Friday on my "office" day.
  4. I got on fine with the kiwi until I tried srt. The action must be different. Would stay in for a single push!
  5. There is tape wrapped round the inner part of the clamp, you can see it in the first photo. Bike inner tube would have been good, didnt think of that! This self amalgamating stuff is good though. Not sure when I next have a chance to use it.
  6. I hear what your saying. I have kiwi climbers on my spikes and tried using them the other day on a takedown, I was accessing using srt and the rope was away from the trunk (intentionally) to give me a clean route. The kiwis are rubbish most of time and worse for SRT so I looked for a solution and found these clamps. Also, with Ddrt I did use the kiwi climber quite a lot, so this will work for that application too, just a better ascender really, not just for SRT. And finally, Rich, I dont actually know what the feck I'm doing yet so its all experimenting.
  7. Done with self almalgamating tape. Had to find some longer bolts. Not sure if the heads will interfere with the ascender or not as I don't have that with me at home. If it does I can buy some of the proper bolts in a longer length.
  8. Maybe not. It say for geckos but doesn't specify if that's carbon or aluminium ones.
  9. Ideally rigging kit should belong to a groundie, as a climber with the kit is pretty useless, its the experience of a groundie(s) that makes rigging work well or not. As for pricing jobs, rigging well makes it more efficient so the job should be cheaper. I quote against companies that dont have £3K of rigging kit (inc GRCS) so they are going to charge more. Plus I have groundies that have used the GRCS for 10+years and who can also communicate using telepathy. We win every big rigging job and turn it into the easiest work we do. Only bad rigging is difficult. .
  10. Had a good thought, a water bottle would make a good weight for the rope, then bring it up and keep it with you.
  11. Just thought of a bodge, if all else fails then a jubilee clip round the shank above the ascender clamp might work.
  12. Good idea. I had some of that somewhere. I think though if the bolt was in the right place it wouldn't bang against it, rather just have constant pressure but I am trying to avoid drilling so the tape is a good plan.
  13. I was told to "pedal backwards". Seems to work. And I have been clipping my rope bag to the bottom of the line but I'll find a weight of some kind 8nd to use. Just ask the ground is to remove it when up top.
  14. And, it comes with 2 set if bolts. The longer ones are barely long enough, you can only just get one thread in at first. So longer bolts required if going to use ductape.
  15. Oh, I tightened it by hand only using Allen key. A 3/8th extension bar and socket might help but yes I don't want to crush the cf. The bracket is stainless steel and very heavy for what it is which is a shame on cf geckos!!!
  16. Thank you. Yes ductape might work. Seems a bit temporary but worth a try. I was thinking 4 or 5mm bolt just above the clamp so it butts up to it and can go no further. With regard to the ascenders, my kiwi climber is an old model, it maybe that new ones are better. Sobe ascenders have a hole you put a karabiner in but that's a pain to do. I've used petzl panting for years and they are ok but I've only used for Ddrt. I bought the arbpro and I have the boots for it too. It's the best I've used for sure and the boots are good. Do being a key to put the same ascender on my spikes will be good once this issue is sorted. Thanks for your help.
  17. I'd have no worries drilling through steel or aluminium but not sure about cf. I have a kiwi climber but it's hopeless for srt as it pops out too easily. I thought this attachment would be ideal.
  18. Anyone using the spikes adapter for Arbpro foot ascender? How does it stay in place!!?? Tried it today and it slips up the shank (is that the word) of the spikes. Very difficult to get it on tight enough. Can I drill through the carbon fibre and put a bolt through to hold it on place?
  19. 5 egg scrambled for breakfast and 3 or 4 cups of tea. Then food all day long whenever I feel like it, but can work till 3 without if needed.
  20. Stanley make tool boxes. Waterproof and with wheels. B&q
  21. Hi Rich I don't think I'm there yet. Mostly using it for ascent. Used a hitch today and thats all good so will stick to that now I think. Last week I was base tying and ascending and mostly staying on SRT to remove limbs in corsicans and major deadwood off the trunk on way down, so not really much moving side to side to do. This week the trees are more complex so I went straight to Ddrt when I got to the TIP. I have figured out advancing to the TIP with srt, quite easy really, and in those cases I just tie off on my throw in point, or base tie with a separate rope so the end of my line as at the top, I can then untie it, and drop the base tie line and continue SRT to the TIP, then mostly set it to Ddrt. So, lots to do. I need to master various other tie offs, top and base, and get to know which one to use in which situation. For Access though I have it nailed. Faster than I could ever footlock except for the set up time which can be longer as I always go back to the truck for something!! Chest harness usually but I'll get better organised.
  22. I'm all set with hitch and HC for some climbs tomorrow. I'll leave the zz for Ddrt only now.
  23. So, clipping into the bow shackle on my ZZ has some really horrible alignment issues. Not just keep the krab aligned on the correct axis (preventing crossloading) but also the orientation is then 90 degrees out so the spine (or the gate) is hitting the ZZ, rather than being parallel to it. Since my rope has now spliced end (due to a mishap!) its actually better to ties it off on the bow shackle. PITA but works ok, and can be threaded through the wrench to help keep that out of the way. So rope goes thorough the wrench, through the shackle, back through the wrench and then tied off abover the wrench so the know is out of the way as well. Works ok but messy. Moving forwards with a HC today as I understand all concerns with the ZZ. Its ok and nice for short climbs, but never feels that safe.
