  5. My webbing is not wearing at that point an sI too use the lower attachment almost exclusivley, its what sets the TM apart from every other harness and makes for some otherwise impossible work positions. The Trango cinch is one of those few items of gear that does every part of its job perfecty in every possible set up. Superb! I had a positioner before and its ok but not perfect at everything. Moicro grabs are by far inferior to everything including friction hitches.
  6. If you can get someone in the states to wrap up the goods and add a birthday card (remove any invoices) then it will go through customs, gifts are allowed cos its the person in the states buying it

Yeah thats what I'm getting at, but yes I see what you mean. It depends on how much the fishermans is actually doing and whether the later bights are doing the work. I just thought that when it all comes undone, the tail of the fishermans, or the knot itself might catch the Karabiner. So your tail end of rope is still round your re de point and your climbing line is still through the pulley(s). I doubt you would get enough pull to untie the fishermans especially if it was biting down hard on the first bite. If it got stuck in a fork then you probably could undo it. I will have to give it a try. I've got some blaze with a big 3inch splice in it. What I do like about this set up is the lack of gear needed. You could effectively not have a re de with you and just set this sytem up with a spare karabiner, that kine of on the fly trick is better than carrying tons of geart for every unlikely occassion. But yes I do still carry tons of gear!!

If your not going to use pulleys with it then don't spend money on it!
  10. My tip is get your crew to agree to all having the same tea/coffee/milk/sugar combination. Anyone who works for me has to have tea strong milk no sugar so they fit in with the rest of us. Reason: if you give a complicated drinks order to a client, "one tea 2 coffees one of them white not much milk in the tea two sugars in one coffee one sugar in the tea but none in the coffee with no milk" then they won't ask you again! "Three teas milk no sugar in all" is simple and they'll enjoy making it and offer you more every half hour! Also sack anyone who declines an offer for tea on the basis that you just had one out of your flask, you won't get asked again.

Old climbing rope should be ok, as long as you retire it early enough for it to still have plenty of life left in it. As long as its marked for rigging only it would be ok by the HSE. Buy new climbing ropes more often (always good policy) and use the old ones for anything and everything and Loler inspect them as usual taking into account what they are used for and have been subjected too.

In the set up above, the pulleys/krab might get stuck on the termination knot on the rope. If you had a big splice on the end of the line and used that to set it, the krab would slide off easier.

That kind of quick release system has been used in a comp before but I'm not sure it would be allowed now. Previously it was used as a way of setting up an in line anchor on an accesss line that was retrievable and that is not allowed now as it is primary life support. As a re de, it may be allowed. As for logs falling in the loop if used in work situation, you would/should be lanyarded in whilst using the saw, so the worst case scenario is your main line going a bit slack.
  14. I think one the best thing that the the treevolution demos show is that whilst it may be possible to carry out this complicated scenarios it really is too much hassle. Mark Bridge and Chris Cowell are extremely dedicated to their cause and they go to great lengths to prove that a single line rescue is possible and in proving that they also prove its not worth it. We are all agreed that lowering the SRT line from a trunk belay is the way to go and if we've ever wondered about an srt rescue, we now know what it involves so ever more than before we are going to set up that trunk belay. No more tying it off at the bottom and hoping all will be ok. What they have shown us is: If you are lucky enough to have Chris or Mark on site (with a couple of hundred quids worth of gadgets on them) when a large bit of deadwood falls a knock you senseless during your assent, then you will still die of boredom during the rescue. And so if the rescue is to be done by the best groundie you know, then death is still your best option. Thanks Chris and Mark. We have now got a trunk belay kit bag and my chaps can set that up while I'm getting my throwline stuck.
  15. I'd like to go there some day, its not too far from me. Could you give me a grid ref?
  16. See what French People used to be like!!!! Four blokes bringing two girls home in a trailer!
  17. Swindon Borough Council had one years ago, its been scrapped now. It was available to hire by other councils, and when you went to collect it they would hoist your chipper onto the top deck and lash it down with ratchet straps. Then as you went along you could chip as you go and either fire the woodchip over the side onto the verge or fire it into a sort of funnel that let it fall into a container built into the lower deck. Or you could stack debris and wait for a suitable place and chip it over the side then. Brilliant!
  18. Apparently there is some new forum called Arbstalk, which started last week and I've been told I should join. Well done on the site so far Steve, I hope I can help confuse some issues far more than necessary. Hello to everyone else, sorry for my absense, will try and make up for it. At the moment I can't decide which thread to push into first, any pointers greatly appreciated. SRT, SRT rescue!?, GRCS, colour co-ordinated clothing and climbing equipment? I'm there!!!!! Steve, have you got american spell check on this thing?
