  1. You need hard standing, access for a 30 odd ton truck and be able to load it. If you have all that then go for it. Oh and suitable size woodchip too.
  2. I only just got airstrweams a few days ago! Never mind, I think that orange might be a bit much. The climber ones look ok though.
  3. Yep, all signed and barrierd while we were working. I didn't take any pictures then though! We are working for every house there, its a share owned tree, so they all knew what was going on, and its a no through road. Numpty count was zero today.
  4. I bet theres some really good photos from them, look forward to seeing em. I'll edit out all the no lanyard/one handed/no chinstrap/glasses/ear muff photos, there may be one or two left!
  5. Every single bit lowered. As per usual that was how I sold it, slowly but carefully!
  6. Thanks for the offer. Got one next week and then that should be it for a while. The guy that was takign pics today is a photographer, I think he took over 2000 shots toady!
  7. No, you can have "some wood" but there is a queue!
  8. Not sure Yet, have a hi ab available but might block this one, we'll see. I have a much bigger one to do next week.
  9. I dunno? I'm just cutting it! We'll see what we find in the stem later?? Three surveyors have condemned it due to root damage when the houses were built (70's) Some ganno something around the base too.
  10. One load of chip away and some logs. Leaving neat and tidy over night!
  11. We stated this little one today. Didn't get many pics today because one of the residents spent all day taking pictures so if I get some copies then this could be my most self-indulgent thread ever!!
  12. Oh yes! Tight wad me!
  13. I use blaze with cinch steve, it works great! Would never go back to the positioner. Each to their own etc. I just ordered a helmet cam!
  14. I got a large Beech TD to start tomorrow and another Huge one next week (if we get planning approval in time) but I still havn't got a camera!!
  15. Hi. We have two large beech TD's to do, one this week and one next (with Luke) Plenty of wood available but plenty of people keen. It needs to go each day though, could you come in to chelt on thursday this week and get some? Then we can discuss the other one which is bigger and out of chelt, maybe to far for you.

    Acenders

Hey Mark! How are you? I was sure you going to berate me for promoting use of stuck together ascenders! Yes they can be dodgy and I should have said back up is essential. Anyway, insulting tape is too offensive for your delicate ears Mark. I've got a roll that calls me a *&^% on a regular basis so I leave it in the shed with my talking boots, they get on fine!
  17. I agree its not the best termination not, whatever its called, thats why I forgot it too!
  18. Is it buntline or something ???? Or scaffold hitch???

You probably ought to back up one of the lines if you use an apline butterfly knot on the access rope. If not then you should really back up both lines. This is the more difficult bit! When the two are joined together its not possible to put a karabiner through the tope holes of the ascender so attachign a back up is not easy. A lehgth of rope passed throught the top holes and tied on with a friction hitch is one easy way but the added friction defeats the object of using ascenders. The petlz ascentree ascenders are easier to back up, and this is why the are more advantageous.

Handles together. It actually works really well. Handles aposed just wont work with these type of ascenders. (I'm assuming NZ paul means left and right handled ones) Your second hand just goes on the rope below the ascenders, which is mostly how I use double handles ascenders anyway, especially if in contact with trunck and/branches on the way up. Double handles are ok for straight ascents in mid air. Put them back to back and fix together using zip ties. Or, for a more permanent solution trim the inner part of the rubber handle away from each ascender (get an adult to help you with a stanley knife!) and then tape the two together with insulting tape. I would recomend buying double handled ascenders over this option, but if you have two ascenders not being used much then this is a good method.

I think two petzls stuck together are almost easier to use than double handled ascenders. And of course they could still be used in an srt set up just by using one of the cams only.

Ah! Are they handled ascenders and are they left and right? (one yellow and one blue) if so they can be fixed together to make a nice double, or you would just use one on a single rope but you would then need a croll and maybe a pantin for the full srt set up. Doubling up the two ascenders you have would be the best option IMO.
  23. Yes, its either an early entec (now timberwolf) or its an ex hire machine. The ones for hire come direct form entec instead of through the timberwolf dealership so they remained yellow (and called entec) after the same model had changed to orange timberwolf. Its hard to tell from the pics if its a newer hire machine but the respray might be trying to cover up that fact.
