  1. Burning Elder invites the devil into your house. I'm thinking that myth was made up to help you remember that its crap and not worth burning!
  2. 13/64 is an increas in size from all but the 7/32 so that theory doesn't work. I often go down a size once on the latter part of a chain.
  3. I had a good fire going last night, mostly ash. Put one log of Tree of heaven on last thing, in the mornign the log is untouched and left alone in the grate!! Ok, it was unseasoned but it should have made some effort! Even green oak would burn on a hot enough fire.
  4. I've been selling it and have plenty on my fire. Good stuff, nice when mixed with others things though. I would worry about selling all the same stuff. I have mostly beech ready for next year but want to a better variety!
  5. I use windows movie maker and have found a way round the problem. Looks like you have too though, so no worries. Good video, nice to see what others are up to!!
  6. Right, I have cobbles together something. Edited out a lot of the chainsaw action cos its just boring!! Not much interesting but nice day for it. Mostly just jumping the tops over the wires. There five between me and the dropzone but they are pretty much together in one line on that side of the tree. Only filmed up to tea break. Forgot after that! Actually the last bit was roped down onto the decking but the methods was to experimantal for release here just yet!! ANd the final trunk was easy to chog down between the lines onto the little patch of lawn below, as shown in the pics. Not worth filming that bit. 7. I'm sure it's different around the country but cotswold wall are supposed to levels in them. My grandmother repaired all the walls on our farm, though she didn't build them in the first place as that was 100 odd years before her time. She could put the pro's to shame even with a walking stick in one hand! But this is the same grandmother who would remove paint from woodwork with broken glass cos it was cheaper than buy a scraper and blowtorch!!!!!! Old folk. They don't make them like they used to!
  8. Rupe

    cheap labour

Are you one of those people who think they don't pay themselves much, even though you have vehicles to drive and a house etc. MAybe you don't draw much spending money at the moment, times are hard, but tis not the same as earning 80 a week is it?
  9. Yes, if you are employed already you probably would have to.
  10. Thats for qualified people. When doing tickets your an unqualified operator under supervision, and in that case all rounds on the ground would be used. If the supervisor says all round protection then thats what you nead.
  11. I've signed RA's before and then its been put back in the truck which then drives off to emprty woodchip while climber is still up the tree etc etc. Signing a form is no good unless you can either remember the address/postcode/grid ref or you have easy access to it later.
  12. Keep going as a plumber and do the tickets one by one spread over as much time as you need to pay for it. And keep an eye at for jobs. Leaving a good job for a possible job in arb with no tickets is like jumping out of a perfectly good aeroplane and hoping to land safely but without a parachute!
  13. Reading and signing, is not the same as knowing and remembering.
  14. Do you mean chainsaw and climbing skills or arb theory/science side of things. If you mean climbing etc then Arborventure are somewhere near you. Arbor Venture - Chainsaw and tree climbing training
  15. Yeah its is crappy to climb on, but the limbs are heavy, so you'd think it would be ok. I'll put some green onto a hot fire and see what happens.
  16. Or knowing where the nearest a&e is. It could be a couple of miles down the road or 30+. Its worth knowing!!
  17. One fo the most dangerous things IMO is groundies (aerial rescuers or not) not knowing where you are, geographically! So you cut yourself and get down out of the tree on the adrenaline rush as mentioned above. Then pass out! Groundie calls ambulance, they say where are you? Knackered!! However elaborate your rescue kit and plan is, it is essentiat to have adress, postcode, grid refs etc easily available to everyone on site.
  18. Yep, pollarded the lime and crown lifted one silver birch a couple of weeks ago, then felled the other one but had to do it on a saturday. Stroud is full of tree police though!! Looks like everyone has just come back from glastonbury but not last years one, more like glasto 1978!! We had loads of complaints from people who then came back later to take all the free firewood!!
  19. ?????????? it is early in the morning mate, bless!
  20. Got one limb off a tree of heaven last week. Not much firewood but some. Anyone have any experience of it? I've left it to one side of the log pile for now until I know if its any good.
  21. Plenty of those. I have a groundie who's really good at takign photos, so I think I end up with a bit more that just a bloke up a tree pictures. I'm gonna have a look at the video this mornign and see if there is anything useable. Probably not!!!!!!
  22. Its working out well so far mate!
  23. Yep, its on the "to do" list.
  24. Yep, back of Lansdown road in Stroud.
