  1. he may have read it on here, you can look through your past posts and you say what machine you have! In which case, he may have read this thread now and has got the point that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction!!! God bless social media
  2. 2,7% = £2.16 lost every time you take a card transaction, If I were still working as hard as you on firewood, I'd be wanting to keep that money, it soon adds up!! that would be £100 lost to me in a week in high season, but when you are rushed and working 2 jobs its a tough call to make, especially when trying to get to a bank to stick the cheques and cash in.
  3. i know of the guy from duffryn, I can a very big inconvenience to his business than he can be to yours, he's not the sharpest tool in the box!!! his problem is for a long time he was the only one in the area that was selling on ebay, theres now loads, its not his main income and he does everything the hard way, Ive not met him, but the boys tell me what hes like when they drop stuff off to him My very good friend is his main source of raw material, but may not be for long if he carries on like that, and will certainly end in a few months anyway he gets his firewood production up and running. If he were a clever person, he would realise there is a fair distance between the two of you. if it were me i would change the comment to........... ""At AJ Firewood we are aware of the confusion of firewood merchants selling "builders bulk bags" of firewood and passing them off as cubic metre loads! The industry standard is to sell by a measured volume, usually a cubic meter. A builders bag is half a cubic metre and to show you the size difference here is a picture."" its a bit more pc, but its your site though. one question, how does he know you have a new machine???
  4. hey ash it might be this comment on your web site that has annoyed him "Builders bag loads" Dont be fooled! At AJ Firewood we are fed up of other firewood merchants selling "builders bulk bags" of firewood and passing them off as cubic metre loads! A builders bag is half a cubic metre and to show you the size difference here is a picture. its also " odourless" for the firelighters mate is it cwmbran logs by any chance?? how is that iphone card payment app working out for you too?? what are the costs like??
  5. Interesting reading ash, pm me the other advert please and i'll see if i know him, put on your ebay ad next time that you are the only supplier in your area to be recommended by the former Ty Nant Timber Firewood Company and your customers can contact me too for verification if you like. I doubt he will do anything to harm your business though, If he does you have enough friends in the game to help you out and get going again.

  7. dickie valentine's bridge. I'll look that one up. we tend to stay local unless its a weekend away and if theres no rain, we go to ciww for a play in the ditch

  9. live the dream rich, live the dream I'm off kayaking tomoz with jack, it will be his first grade 3 river, must get the go pro working
  10. thanks mate after slipping a disk 4 times, and turning 40, I couldnt see myself still doing the same at 50, so change now. plus I had been thinking of changing for a few years, but it is hard to let go of a business. also sales arent as good as they used to be with so mant people doing it, so got out whilst still on top before the ship sinks. off into garden maintenance and small landscaping now, hard work starting up again, but with hard work comes more satisfaction
  11. I was Ty Nant Timber, were you a customer?? it would depend on what type of fencing it is, its been a while if i'm honest, but i'm for it
  12. ben, I have bought off M.large 1x42 which is classifieds, bought the japa 700 off fuelwood which timberbear has, bought the road towable 12" off fuelwood which I traded in, have delt with marshall engineering and with riko. all are helpful and good to deal with, but most importantly are excellent with spares. any more advice just ask
  13. will the harbour authority still need it if they are selling off Flat Holm??
  14. would be nice if there was a BBQ section too...mmmmm ribs:001_cool:
  15. thanks dave, I was one of the biggest in south east wales and certainly the biggest in Cardiff, and tried to work with the other firewood people in the area I was always honest about my product, and always looked for better ways to get an excellent product. I started when people would pay me to take thier arb arisings. I went through the boom of the "green fuel" and now i believe i have jumped out before the crash!! I could name a few more in the area that are scaling down or have closed too!! I certainly felt like the unworthy, working for the ungrateful with some of my customers and hated the dragons den style bartering. but for some customers, they are like friends and I am still doing what I can to help them, some have even offered me gardening work, or even gone and negotiated work for me with thier friends. just goes to show that alot can be said for quality, honesty and politeness when I started spitting wood, I was fit and healthy and loved the work. Now I have slipped a disk 4 times, ache all over and look at logs like they are the worst girlfriend I have ever had and will not go away. oh look, I've turned into a grumpy old man:lol:
  16. sorry jon, no i'm not.....just the firewood section I'll probably be found in the landscape section now. But I might pop back just to see how much cider you are drinking:lol:
  17. yeah, that start!!! no worries ash, thanks for your wishes mate, if you need any advise get in touch, still the same number!! And thankyou for your well wishes above guys, staying self employed for now as like long hours, hard work, low pay and no sick pay and not forgetting very little annual leave:thumbup:
  18. yep, maples bleed, use your own judgement if you prune.
  19. Well on friday I closed the doors on my business for the last time. I am no longer running as a sole firewood business in south wales. The last seasoned log has been sold and I have moved out of my yard and onto ventures new. So this may well be the last time I am seen in the firewood forum. I'd just like to thank all the friends I have made in here, but sadly only met a few in person. Thanks to ASH, you're about to get busier, as passing over your number now. Thanks to Joy and Rohan, was great meeting and chatting with you, and may be in touch in the future on behalf of some previous customers for some bulk bagged loads Timberbear, sadly you wont escape my absence, I'm still gona bug you. After 13 years in dealing firewood, I built up quite a knowledge in the industry about wood, timber, drying, processing methods and equipment etc, and a fellow firewood merchant explained to me what a loss of knowledge wont be passed on by me, ( i'm sure he was only blowing sunshine up my a**) so if anyone needs help or advice, please pm me and i'll see what i can do and maybe we'll catch up at the next APF. ( how can i ever stop going to apf!!!)
