Yes i agree the woods i know around suffolk which are unmanaged are empty of life, but the woods i look after are full of all types of wildlife, wild flowers,i remember reading in a book that hazel uncut lives to about 60 years but if it is cut the stools will live up to a thousand. Two years ago we felled a 400 year old oak when i went past it today it has good regrowth which i would not of exspected.

Welcome to the woodmans choice. I don't let gamekeepers decide nothing and we don't have a forestry consltant but we do have a land agent but he does not know an ash from an oak. true story this he took me in rondwood to mark up two or three oaks to sell as timber trees he marked one and it was an ash he said no it is not ash trees have smooth bark the tree was at least 300 years old with deep fisures.

Yes that was his mum and dads house and land. How much does your man with the mill charge a day?

I say it is all sporting here but that is not all true, the owner is mad on trees and wild flowers so he is always wanting work done in the woods. we are also trying to clear all the neglected ponds.
