decided to get as much work done with it i can, think it will do fine for pruning medium sized trees, whats the biggest bar i can fit on it? got a 14" at the moment.
  2. brilliant idea, didnt think of that at all. decided im going with the double wrap strop and then go as high as i can, top out a tiny section so i dont damage the rest of the tree, clean the stem down the stem while chogging sections to the point of reduction. as for leaving it to somone else to do, its not so much my ability that im concerned with, its just the correct way of doing it and how do least damage the tree.
  3. will defo use that idea when settling down in my position to work on them
  4. ok, thanks for the info. liek i said befor this has been a pretty grey area at colleage in regards to the best way of doing it.
  5. hasnt been topped befor, one unbroken stem all the way up, yeah proably will climb with my work position strop and a steel flip line for the cuts. tried to tell him it would be better to take the whoal thing out and replant somthing else, but he seems to think a topped leylandii will look better. how do they react with regrowth after topping? much growth from adventatious buds?
  6. he stole my climbing style...
  7. yeah i was being anti spikes in asking. just didnt wanna get up their put my cuts in see the top go over and be shaken out the tree. + this is my first time topping a conifer out that is staying in. its got a hell of alot of growth on, so i dont think ladder is an option. and also its pretty high where i wanna top it so not sure it would reach. yeah i just finished my 1st year at merrist wood, was staying for a second but now going to NZ for 18months, at the end of that i may come back and do the second year or stay out their. again i was being anti spiking a live tree staying in, just wanted to make 100% sure i was going about it the correct way.

yeah seems to oil fine. only problem is that the controll switch is a bit iffy. dosent click into the 0 position propperly and the only way to get it off is by going full choke. opened it up and had a look around and i cant seem to find how to fix this. any ideas?
  11. well not bad companys as such (and if their were i wouldnt name names on here), but just alot of people who will do the tree work, but not really know what their doing. comming from surrey/hampshire u must know how much money their is to be made around here. Lots of big trees + well off people wanted to keep them in their large gardens = pikeys wet dream. what about spiking? or is it possible to secure yourself safley with Work position strops and/or timber hitch ariel rescure style anchor points?
  12. Somone wants me to top out a 35-45ft leylandii, for more light into their garden. just wanted to know what every one thinks about this practice, as its a grey area at colleage. iv topped trees befor, but only when dismanteling. have never liked the appearance of connifers with the tops taken off, but this guy is pretty determined and their are maby bad tree surgons round my area that would quitehapply do it. i told him if i was going to do it i would only take out 3 meters at most. and as its staying in after its been topped i wanted to question the issue about spikes.

of course . cheers for the input, one last question how much would you pay for a 12month old one that has only done around 3hours work? no damage starts fine no problems.
  14. those trees really are dead dead
  15. he wont tell me the name of the company, says he dosent want me rushing into it and sending off my CV and letter before its perfect, knows me way to well. sending it off next monday. tell me more about the heli jobs? must be pretty big trees to use a peice of kit like that? or are you talking in a forestry sense?
  16. the age old debate, curved or straight blade. personally i prefer zubat, less effort used when cutting with it.

Hey guys, went to price up 2 small private jobs today. one cedar that needs deadwooding and a few snapped out branches tidying up, and another leylandii topping out. so we talked money settled it, then he asked if i was intrested in a chainsaw, thinking he was gonna wip out some haggard old electrical halfords saw he showed me a almost brand new MS180 backhanded, once used in nice condition. i took it home and said i would think about taking the saw from him and reducing the money on the 2 jobs. just wondered if any one knew much about this saw, im finishing colleage and doing a few small private jobs here and their so no need for a massive saw, it sounds like its got quite a bit of grunt in it for its small size. any advice or input would be very helpfull.
  19. haha, from what iv heard from people im not preparing to come back. looks and sounds amazing and the fact that its a 4mil population appeals to me. cheers for all the input.
  20. dose any one know of any arb shows in or around surrey in the next 3 months?
  21. what is the main species? eucaliptus? i hear they have those kaourie trees out their (most likley wrong spelling) that your not allowed to work on now cos of protection or somthing, was wondering if any one had a pic of them or the right spelling. how come not much rigging?
  22. no way, i know its not fake, but its just so so soooo insanley high its hard to belive. what was it they were climbing a crane? if so seemed like their was no buildings near by for it to be used.
  23. hmm, as long as their is surf around and trees to climb ill be happy. i also heard it was only an hour or so drive if i wanted to go snowboarding. is this true or not?
  24. that was pretty nuts, if i tried the dangeling thing my body would wig out and end up having to be scraped off the pavement
  25. i dont have a problem with people who smoke weed in genral, its just i think their is a time and a place. i wouldnt be happy with somone groundsmaning for me if i knew he wasnt right, but i would feel the same about if he was pretty ill that day. like somone has said befor, tree work is dangerous enough as it is, adding recreational drugs into the mix isnt gonna improve injury/death stats is it. just gives health and saftey more reason to make all tree work carried out from a MEWP.
