  1. I belive the company I work for is still looking for people to work from their Northampton yard. Also possibly opportinities in Newbury and Harlow. Below is an ad they recently placed:
  2. I love to climb just for fun. No pressure, nothing else to think about apart from how to safely get to the top and enjoy the view Its just like being a kid again except better because the addition of ropes, harness and other climbing aids mean no branch is ever out of reach anymore
  3. I like trees but people are starting to accuse me of being a-bor
  4. I have the fellsman experts. Very comfy boots! Wear them 5 days a week for work and and also at the weekend if I'm out and about in the countryside in preference to my old walking boots. Very waterproof as long as they're waxed regularly. Can't comment on long term wear as I've only had them 3 months.
  5. This guy gave me my Arboriculture lectures while I was studying Horticulture at Reading uni. Gives a fantastic lecture - prob the main reason I decided to get into arb work! Now to see if can get myself a place...
  6. Could be a fight for the Old Peculiar
  7. See, this is why we have girls get togethers - to save you blokes from having to know about these things. Now isn't that considerate of us?
  8. You definitely need to get a life Bob- bet your drinkng tea now just to get enough teabags for the morning greeting of the lads at the council tomorrow
  9. Yes we do work with men 5 days a week which is fine but every now and again its just a refreshing change to have a girls weekened away. Its good to be able to chat about different techniques at work and also general stuff in life that the blokes just can't relate to or understand, eg womens body shapes and kit design, moon cups and bras full of sawdust Would you really have these conversations with the guys you work with everyday? Sexist?! If you guys want a blokes only event feel free, I personally have no issues with that. What a load of cr*p! I doubt girls that only get on with other girls would get involved in arb work in the first place!
  10. Unfortunately not, Morris (yeah I don't know the right spelling either!) and photo taking took over!
  11. If you weren't the boss I might be inclined to call you a cheeky git but you are so I'll just have to bite my tongue instead...
  12. Well of course! I just thought 'arborist' sounded better than 'person who works with trees'. I'll quite happily admit to the world I'm very much still a numpty novice with much to learn
  13. Better to risk dying a hero than to be certain of living as a coward IMO
  14. The weekend started well, managed to squeeze a tent, sleeping bag, harness, rope and even some clothes in a suitcase, public transport was for once on time and I was greeted in Cromer by sunshine and a friendly face (thanks Abby for the lift!). Sadly saturday was a bit of a wash out. Didn't start climbing untill late afternoon because of torrential and persistant rain. Didn’t mind too much though, we spent the day chatting and eating! Thankfully cleared into a lovely evening so had a go at footlocking with ascenders. With coaching from world champ Jo soon wizzed up into the tree (well ok maybe wizzed was a slight exageration but it felt like it compared to body thrusting!) Then we felt like having a laugh so made a swing. All too soon it started to get dark and the midges decided we were supper. Was only a small turn out, 4 of us plus a baby and a dog, but was great to make new friends and have some fun in the trees. Its nice to know that as a female arborist I’m not alone! Thanks again to Abby for organising the free camping, Forest Park had some amazing trees! My favourite quote of the weekend – “Mind that box is quite heavy. Oh what am I talking about, you’re a tree surgeon!”. Hopefully see some more of you at the next one
  15. Thanks Iain and Pete for a great couple of days. Learnt loads and had a lot of fun As for fresh out of kindergarten can't even say fresh out of uni anymore, that was a few years ago now! But I'm going to take it as a compliment anyway, don't want to be getting old and decrepit just yet
