1. I dunno... Le Francais all seem to be phobic about burning ANYTHING that is hardwood. Same goes for woodchips. In fact they treat it as a kind of toxic waste that is acidic and destroys their gardens. However, I had a meeting about supplying wood chip to our local Town Hall who need in excess of 200m3 per annum. Turns out Birch chip is .5 more acidic than Conifer chip and so a little lime is all that is required to sweeten it. Just thought I'd share that snippet with you all. Ty
 2. Oh...that's GORGEOUS! But mine is much shorter than that as the client wanted 'firewood'....nuts. Next time... Ty
 3. But...is it innneresting anyway...? I was going to give it away. I just didn't want to see it split for firewood. Ty
 4. Right...boast time 'again'... Today, 2 local clients, both neighbours. They both added trees, stumps and shoite on the day. Before I touched them I gave the clients a price for EACH extra job. Walked away with 910euros as a result, 2 man team who will sleep sound form fatigue and clean conscience. The stumps I'll do in 1 hour 30 min on Saturday morning. Mind you... It was a 10 hour day so call it 12 hours to round up with grinding is only 75euros per hour or £60+ per hour. On budget. I'm a business NOT a charity. When I do charitable stuff its for charities NOT rich f*****s. Ty
 5. Oh...I thought that was an industry standard for teams sub £300 per day...
 6. Well, we are 60-80euros per hour including vat for 2 men depending on the job. Lower is its something others could easily do, higher if it requires more skill, grunt or working to special order. To fit 6 panels like that, we would want a mornings wages so... 280euros (£240) including delivery of materials. Regards Ty
 7. Is it worth keeping the boll that forms at the graft union? If so, I'll keep it and find a deserving wood turner. Regards Ty
 8. I've just had a conversation with a client in the U.K chasing a quote I did a while back. Client says he thought it would be about 200euros based on the last guy he used. I told him every job is different and 750 is our price for whats involved. He named the 'Arborist' who previously worked for him. I tell the client, well use your previous 'Arborist' then, why call us? Client says, the 'Arborist' is not interested so he called us instead. My guess is that the previous 'Arborist' priced himself far too cheap the first time and so set a precendent he didn't want to continue. Now client thinks we are all as cheap as chips...hhh! Ty I

Hello Dean,

Did you get to the bottom of our bearing price issue...?

Regards Stuart

 10. Boiler goes off, Plumber turns up, fiddles a fiddle and 20min later presents you with a £50+ bill... Puts EVERTHING into perspective... Ty I am 60% less expensive and 100% more honest than a plumber...
 11. Yes Andy, positive. I fitted a tacho from new and also dropped the revs or stopped between chipping. 3 litres of petrol was the average use for the 18hp Vanguard twin. The stump grinder 27hp petrol is around 4.2 litres per hour...the git! I cannot account for your Jo Beau but with a consumation like that, between you, you could save the world from Global warming if every-one used your wee chipper! hhhh! Ty I'm not a Troll but I am a cheeky git...
 12. Well... With my old CS100 I figured 240-300 euros for chipping depending on how much material there was. Sometimes I was hired to climb AND supply the wee chipper whilst the property owner fed the thing after a little instruction. For that I got 300-350 euros. That's blades changed every 25 hours and 3 litres of fuel per hour, quickly mounts up! Having said that, I recently sold the wee chipper for £600 less than I paid for it after 230 hours use so not bad really eh? Good investment, keep it clean! Regards Ty p.s All arisings left on site.

Dean,

Just looked at our records.

We paid £87.95 PLUS vat for each HB20 bearing THEN £47 postage to France.

I told the guy I was dealing with at the time that I regarded that as being rather steep.

And so my question is...what now?

Regards

Stuart

 14.

Thank you for that.

Regards.

 15.

I feel a donation coming on here...

Spud, I recently done a woody hedge job at the limits of my Stihl hedgecutter.

I forget the number now, HS81/81 for larger material...?

Anyway, it began to vibrate more during the works.

It was struggling on eleagnus, very tough stuff.

What may I have stressed to cause it to vibrate more..?

Regards

 16. Morning all. I confess, my usual buoyant self is being brought low by my business partners behaviour. After trading separately for 2 years but working together we decided to form a limited company. We have work ahead of us, no problems there. In fact whilst at work we are an excellent team and get on fine. What is eating at me is the change in my partner after hours. He has become controlling in his behaviour, his coldness, arrogance and rudeness are all becoming too much for me. I am treated as an employee in my own company. Kept in the dark about 'his' plans and our internal admin. My diary is empty even though I know I have brought in work for a month recently. So Monday, as I don't officially know what I am doing for work I will visit the accountant and see if I can't find a get out of jail solution before I have another anxiety attack. I'm off on my bike now to work off my nervous energy. Ty
 17. Muncky, Its an open job offer for the late May Bank holiday. If you are inclined then get in touch with the O.P and come along! You can play with the famous Quadchip but no touching or I'll have to contact social services and use an anatomically correct chipper doll to find where you've been fiddling with the controls...hhh! Frankly I'm looking forward to it as a busmens holiday. Ty
 18. If you guys google 'Lochnagar crater' then you will lose several hours in awe and more following the links and history. I wanted to revisit the Somme again anyway and this is just the best excuse possible to get in with the experts. I may ask my ole Dad to come over and swing a billhook for a day or so. Ty
 19. Last Spring I cut down a Birch around midday and thought I'd hit a pipe eaten by the tree! Really taken aback by the flow of sap. I may make some wine regardless of my religion and give it away to infidels... That'll get 'em! Ty
 20. I think at least 25% of running time is not actual chipping time when you think about the feeding and fetching of material. So from my estimation manufacturers claims 'xyz' hours between blade changes is so much...rot. If I was chipping pure balsa wood from a swept concrete floor MAYBE I could achieve the claimed hours BUT...I prefer to change much earlier, blades AND fluids to prevent...bad stuff. Ty p.s What do I know anyway, I probally one of those forum ***heads...
 21. I know many others on Arbtalk would do the same. I'm just better placed, geographicaly, thats all. But it does feel good to have you all behind me on this. Regards Ty
 22. What about uses of sap? I want to make some syrup (wines are out) Ty
 23. Lochnager, You may forward your contact details via email and I'll call you to discuss further. Its now booked in our diary. Fy
 24. O.K I up my bid to a euro but not a centime more... Ty
 25. I'm serious, not a joke this one but don't cannonise me yet! Ty
