  1. About that Beeswax bracket....I hasten to add i am guessing here entirely and I can see that the problem is that I refer to the wood not the bracket which will make this suggestion a bit spurious ( without foundation )bare with me. The name may be derived from the preferential decay of the fungus. Apparently preferring horizontal parenchyma and longditudinal medullary cells ( I think I got that right.)This gives rise to an honeycomb appearance. Mind you, I think you probably have to view the damn thing under uv conditions.....If anybody really knows....
  2. Lets get the spelling right already... Ganoderma lucidum. Certainly looks like a mushroom, not a perennial bracket...wonder wtf with the generalisation made by Schwarze, Engels & Mattheck . I agree the bracket of pfeifferi is unlike that Tony presents but this is not enough to rule it out IMO. Cheers for the post Andy.
  3. Oh right yeah...? Seems that qtra is a mathematical system of probabilities. Although not solely an equation, I can perhaps perceive of some inconsistencies in the marriage of pure maths and the science of predicted failure ( the application of what we know about wood, growth, decay etc..) not to mention the maths of mechanics. This tho' is not so hard to reconcile with probability ? ( Its both maths. ) I can see that it may not always be that useful....Mmmm...cheers.
  4. [quote=Dean Lofthouse;41079 Subject to test drive Let us know what U reckon Dean ??
  5. You said twists right?? Urrghh! I will take a proper look for sure! cheers.
  6. Whilst we are on the subject..the buckles may prove a worthwhile innovation ( curved lateral )It seems while manu's are not all the same, the buckles all share the same premise. I find I need to really " click " into place or sometimes you can go off half cocked in a sense..like not properly shut?? The komet buckles are not like this ime.
  7. No..great Steve...what with all the cafuffle on the treemotion a new webbing product is interesting...I have used a butterfly II plenty and hold it in high regard....do tell!! Oh, and great photo on honey's home page...v glam!!? n'est pas?
  8. Look the same...and check that price tag....They would say that wouldnt they??
  9. No man...I'm talking the string head strimmer....not a clearing saw..I not a total moron!! You are absolutely right..required. I cant believe a strimmer is the same thing??
  10. i meant lucidium didnt i ??
  11. Interestingly, I can find no word that this particular type.. (pfeifferi ) does not do a perennial bracket thing. The inference by Schwarze, Engels and Mattheck is that Ganoderma spp are all perennial brackets.
  12. Hi, I am currently ensconced in a debate as to the need to use PPE whilst operating a strimmer. Obviously there is the need for ear defenders and eye protection as a basic starting point. Steel toe caps are standard safety footwear. What is the need for a hard hat in open areas, nothing above essentially? Surely the risk of boiling your brain or sweating into the eyes til blinded outweighs the need to use a hard hat? Anyone knowing the law is invited to enlighten me please. Or better still, if you got a link from the HSE Safety leaflet....
  13. Maybe not..do you know how rare this fungus is...maybe 10 sightings in UK ? Anyway, defo red list number...mmmmmm...!!
  14. I see where you goin' with tha'....Phellinus igniarius ( false tinder polypore ) can be compared to fomes fomentarius....I'm sold on robustus, cheers!
  15. Doesnt it just look like so many others? What is that...25-30 cms found where ?
  16. cool...this one tho appears some 13' up the stem. At least 10 mnths old, it was a white/cream colour at one time
  17. This shows older fruiting bodies.
  18. Herwith pic of beech stem..think its a fomes but want some thoughts...there are a number of old brackets that look more like Daldinia...?
  19. Its the slow release mulching system developed by councils that would otherwise strim the bejesus out of the bark at the base??
  20. I was advised to wait for a second run harness...in case anyone was thinking of rushing out after a first run straggler left on the shelf....
  21. Well...its all good as far as permissions go.... What am I offering here? Beautiful woodland setting with some very big Fagus sylvatica amongst others. There is a possibility I can wangle free camping for yous...Otherwise the site boasts a swimming pool ( indoor of course !) and a bar / restaurant. All within a stones throw from Cromer the seaside resort of legend. I would strongly recommend you make arrangements to check out the site beforehand. I will be happy to show you around. Maybe a w/e or one evening would suit me best. I have PM you my e-mail. No I havnt as you have blocked mail....wtf?
  22. I assume from your comment that you are not one of them., I know you inspect, it is at your discretion.
  23. Some inspectors will chuck it out without flinching... I gotta say I would not pick a fight on the issue myself........
  24. I should ****** think so buddy!!!
  25. The second show was more enjoyable than the earlier one...maybe just a weak pilot episode. Its great innit, iPlayer!!
