1. Is the comp running over all three days??
2. No worries, would be nice to know soon.
3. Personally i wouldnt bother with the short one, 5m for base anchor is great.
4. The snake anchor is a great piece of equipment. It encourages people to set up base anchors properly and makes it super easy to put a lowering device on there. I didnt see the price as a problem. The only negative i had with mine was loosing it. Dont know why it is taking me so long to replace it.
5. Any news on when the event will be this year? Are we aiming for last May bank holiday??
6. Bruce

Going to USA.

Check out california arb association they do a climbing event end of summer i think. great event.
7. ISA Certified Arborist is recognised all over Australia and good to have because they can relate to it more sometimes then English qualifications but if you work for a good company they will be able to look and see how English qualifications match up.
8.
Hi, I'm living in fremantle and am a climber from the uk....been here for a couple of months. I'm looking for some different type of work. What's your company called??

9. Great thread from start to finish. A great job. Lots learnt James. Reminds me of a job I did at the start of summer, never done anything as big but learnt a lot but we glad for the weekend. It's also great to see the diagnosis side of things, learning from the video and seeing the wood being used after.
10. Give Jo hedger a call from arbor venture, they run an advanced rigging course. Having worked and climbed with Jo, she's knows her stuff.
11. would say honey brothers for face to face serivce and a shop with everything in. just a bit to far away for you matty boy!!
12. Tidy work as always stuey!! You coming back for the comp? be good to see your mug again
13. Thanks very much Dak, was very aware of keeping the eye tight, but it beat me. Next time it wont though.
14. Donaghys say you 500m. Samson say two fid lengths. It's a long bury. I've got it on my side strop using a cinch. So will see how it goes when using the cinch. They have good pdf's on the Samson website.
15. Old snake: at the end of the splice you have the eye which is covered by the cover but then plenty of excess cover. The donaghys instructions say bury the cover between the core and cover one inch at the start of the eye. I thought I had pulled it tight enough but the when smoothing out the rest of the splice the baggy ness appeared again. Samson intructions say Just bring the cover down the neck of the rope and lockstitch in place making sure its twice the diameter of rope. Hope that all makes sense, think I'm gonna re-whip it now. Thanks
16. As far am I'm aware the 10mm that i have is still class II, unless you use a modified class I splice. I diidnt have access to the modified class I so stuck with what i knew. The new different colour, armor prus poly is class I. But if anyone can correct please do. I need to not rush my whipping as it can make a tidy splice look messy. Thanks for the advice tho.
17. First attempt at classII splice on 10mm AP. Used the Donaghys instructions. I know the eye is baggy, I need the pull the cover tight when tucking it back at the end, not the best wipping either. Any positive advice much appreciated. Thanks
18. When you coming back mate??you gonna be working all over??
19. Nice vid Matty boy!!! Hope your doing well?
20. The tree runner is a great piece of kit, perfect for everyday works. Just a step up from the porta wrap without the expense of the Hobbs.
21. the campsite were very over cautious so wanted it down....the option of a habitat stump was talked about..but they declined my offer.
22. cheers for the replies....was a fun climb...campers could have been moved, but there on 'holiday' so was too much effort. i did have a word with the boss when we fell the stem and it shattered into many pieces! But at least it made it was to log up and move around!!
23. Had a mature lime tree to take down the other day at work on a campsite. I dead wooded about a year ago so knew it it wasn't in great shape. Checked the tree over and knew that there was server decay, didnt know the exact extent, so knew it would mean getting up there and getting it down as quickly as possible. There was a large drop zone which helped me get it down as quick as possible. A clear fell wasnt possible to due campers and a crane was too expensive (if you can put a price on human life) It wasnt till after i knew the extent of the decay.... Just wondering if anyone of you guys would have spent the time with a resistograph to find out the true extent or would you have just on with it??
