Where would be the best place to get a diesel chipper from, what sort of prices should i be expecting to pay for a half sensible one, tow along??
Try Thorne Engineers in Wheldrake York. They are really good guys who really do a good job of re-furbishing chippers then selling them on.

"disco leg" I like it!!!!

I was thinking along the exact same lines myself. Trying to figure out how to find if they need any extra help out there and how to go about organising it?? Let us know if you have any ideas??
I'd be well up for a few weeks in the land of the baguette!

what does this cost, if you were to take a day with 2 guys, including all the bracing?
The kit (for a small tree up to 40cm/2tonnes) comes in at just over £100+vat. Add on your daily rate and you're away. We are thinning the crown aswell so have got half a day on it in total. (Hope it's enough)
The kits for the larger trees are obviously more costly.

My clients tree is in a private pinetum and I think as josharb said they also want to plant a re-placement tree. The bracing should give 10-12 years at least, by which time replacement should be a decent size, then I guess the original will be ready to come down.

plastic bits you slide into the bracing where it wraps round the stem/branch, youll have a sheath which protects the bark from the bracing to cover the bracing where the plastic bits are, the rubber dildo gets inserted into the middle-easer if you do this whilst its slack/before you wrap other end round branch
tension is as tight as you can get it by hand
thats how i do it!
Muchos amigo. Thanks for the advice!!!

By the way, I'm doing this on Thursday, so help will be greatly recieved y'all

Also....... what kind of tensions am I looking at across the span??? Am I right to assume that as the splices etc are all done without tools, then the tension is also going to be as tight as I can do by hand and then the shock absorber does the work. The question is "How slack does the cable need to be???"
Thanks for the advice.

Just taken delivery of a Boa cable bracing kit (thanks Jonsie) but the instructions are in good old german. I can figure out what most of the kit is for, we have rope, shock absorbers, plastic disc (year of installation), red tape and webbing sling. There are also some thin plastic things about 1metre long and tappered at each end, what are they??? Do they go in the webbing sling along with the rope around the limbs to be braced????? If so what function does this perform???? Or am I being very dense???
Thanks peeps.

Check this old thread out. May be useful/????

Been wondering myself about doing my Terrano. Heard lots of diferrent results from good to bad. So I am now most confused.

I have the alloy geckos, love em!!!!!!!!!!
Didn't fancy the carbon ones, I think I would wreck em.
Me too mate, they put the joy back into spiking. Do you find that after a bit of use the velcro that attaches the pad to the shaft doesn't work so well, what with all the dust and debris kicking around........maybe I should just clean them one in a whille!!!!!!!!
Top spikes though, couldn't entertain a pair of buckle up one's now.

Scary times await us all. And is it me or does there seem to be a lot of us at home today scratching our balls posting threads or replies???
-
And a Marc Almond shaped dog chew!!!
-
Or just very bored!!!lol

Try and get hold of a bottle Posada del Rey. Spanish red, not too expensive. But REALLY good. With a nice chunk of stilton or camembert you're well away
-
I'm resisting my usual. But is this your dog?
pretty tough looking mutt.
No, mine's black, maybe I could bleach her white then spray paint her pink just like that one. That's not too cruel is it??

Always wear a vest on a cold day
-
Exactly. Keeps the joints warm in the cold water. Seem to know quite a bit about Poodles Lee. Maybe you're closet fan!!!
-
I can beat that. I have a Yorkshire Terrier. She is a very good guard dog in the sense that she goes ballistic at any unusual noise........I also have a jack russell so I cant be a total poof. Dont be ashamed of having a poodle they are great dogs.
I'm not ashamed mate....she's great.....just a bit gay. Maybe it could be my way in to the "pink pound"!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Woofter!............ seriously they tell me they make a great wild fowling dog
Apparently so, they were bred for retrieving wildfowl from water, and are actually meant to be one of the most itelligent of all dog breads. I took her to the beach today and she loved the water.

You may remember a few months ago I started a thread about should I or shouldn't I get a dog. Thanks for the replies people. We (the wife and I) decided to get a dog.
Having got a wife and a daughter I'm sure you'll apreciate my decisions are well down the pecking order (anything tho keep the two girls happy and my life easy!!!)
So...........we got the dog wait for it..........................a standard POODLE, and as much as I tell all I meet that they "are infact hunting dogs" it still remains to say I fear I have the gayest dog. Oh and by the way she's named after a ballerina (just to rub salt in the wounds) And yes she comes to work with yours truely.
Can anyone out there top trump that??????????????

Don't forget this has been going on for 2 years and I guess that she has said about the re-planting after the TPO were put in place. And the trees weren't protected until she went to them to ask to fell them because of the letter she had recieved from the highways. As regards to knowing because she's the land owner you're right but I guess she was just making the council aware of her intent. I doubt if she'll be doing that again in the future!!!!!!!!!!!! A real tricky one me thinks. Sorry for the confusion but that's the story as I know it.
Bio chain/bar oil???????
in General chat
Posted
I know this has been covered before, but I need to get some new bar/chain oil.
At the moment I use sthil bio-oil, which I think is very good but also VERY expensive. I am keen to stay with the bio-oil route but wondered if there are any cheaper recommendations you guys/gals can suggest.
Years ago I used some well dodgy Oregon stuff, it was green/white in colour and really runny (almost like water)...didn't rate it.
Suggestions please......I'm running really low.......as usual left it to the last minute to order in new stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!
