I'm down in Kent, but the other day found myself looking at a job in Reigate for friends of the family, it kinda makes me obliged to do it!!! I need to know if any of you fellow arbs would be so kind as to let me dump a couple of loads of conifer chips and a load of wood (quality products I know........)off up that way I will pay to do so!!! or if not where is the local recycing centre in Reigate.

Looked at some walnuts today for a good client of mine, they have an avenue of them, I reckon about 20 trees in total. Two of the trees have died this year and there are a few more in the rows that are looking very thin and could also be on their way.

I managed to peel some of the bark away at the base of the dea ones and although a slight "mushroomy" smell and some white sheeting there was no signs of any boot-laces. I know the walnuts are host tree to Amillaria, but does the lack of boot-laces indicate that this is not H.F.

I asked if he could remember any fruiting bodies over last autumn and he couldn't, so no help there.

Any ideas what it could be and also if indeed it is H.F. how can we stop this decemating his avenue of trees???

A gardener friend of mine recently fell out of a conifer hedge he was trimming and bust his ankle! Was close to having it amputated so now he will pass on hedges, he was going at £5 a metre, obviously if it was a well overgrown one then he would add more. I am now taking on his hedges and will stay harnessed in.

Is that £5/metre for hedges that could be done from standing or does it include the hedges that you have to get into???

So what would/do you do Mick?

Got a job planting some quite large trees, client wants to know what kind of guarantees I will put on the trees (to protect his investment)

What do you lads/lassies normally offer by way of a guarantee.? How does this work?

Also do you have a maintenance schedule for newly planted "large" trees (3-4metres)?

Not that I really want to do more hedge trimming, but work is work, so my question is do you have a "hedge cutting/trimming" rate and a "tree surgery" rate? Or do your clients pay arborist rates whatever the job.

Me, well in the past I've always stuck to my guns and charged the same rate no matter what the work, but lately seen some realy nice hedges that would be a joy to do and could lead on to further work.

What say you's

I used to have one of these, they are wicked trucks, in my opinion much better than the new L200's

I had some aluminium checkerplate greedy boards made for it, I still have them let me know if you want them!

Just got back from looking at a great job.

A client wants an established 20ft conifer moving and re-planting, it's about 6 inches at the base. I'd love to do it bit of a change and all!!

So any suggestions on good anchorage systems for when we replant.

Should we go and cut the roots ready for moving next year??

Anyone done stuff like this in the past??

Right, from what I can gather, there seems to be a little history between the council and highways, they have had site meetings and the highways man has stood with his back to the council man!!!!!!!!! Pathetic I know, I want to do the job, but as said don't want to be the "scape goat".

The trees in my opinion (12 years+ in the trade) need to come down, I wonder if this can be done on the dead, dying or DANGEROUS claus ????

Personally I'm with highways on this one, as I said they have run it past their legal team and they too reckon they trump the council decision.

What a waste of time and money!!!!!!!11

So, I've been involved with this case for a while now........

The Highways have ordered my client to fell 4 trees because they are lifting the pavements, the trees are protected TPO's and after lodging a second application to fell them the council have said NO, they are not to be felled, highways say they must be and the H&S outweighs any TPO that may be present.

I thought up until today that that was my last dealings with said trees and client, but now I know that the highways have served letters of intent saying the trees need to be felled and that they have had their legal team look at them and say we can fell the trees.........WITHOUT consent from the council!!!!!!

Would you take the chainsaw to these trees and risk the wilfull damage to protected trees rap?????????

Yeah all the settings are exactly the same as they were!! This one recognises the wi-fi network but wont work on it.

Tried talking to orange about it but got nowhere
