  1. I was going to say jeez old man, dementure setting in.
  2. Big swings and or heavy loading on primary anchor point and equipment. ? Brown stains in your undies
  3. I tell you something B101uk, the electrified container booby trap got me again the other day. If you touch the container accidently whilst your stood up the shock is uncomfy but not severe because it's trying to earth through the soles of your boots. I was knelt down at the side of it with my knee earthed out on wet grass. Bloody hell, I may as well of grabbed a mains wire, it really gives you a cracking belt. Even I'm scared of it now. I thought it may be fun on the getogether day on the 16th for everyone who attends to hold hands, the one one the far end touches the ground whilst the one nearest the container touches the container. That should be fun at lunch time
  4. Still no-one in the trap. Must have been one of them jobs where they have moved on. I don't want them to have it in their little black book of dump sites though
  5. It'll be one of those we don't know till the day whether anyone is camping things, bring your tent and the beer anyway. Whatever you do don't forget the beer.
  6. Everyones welcome Frank, there'll be quite a lot of people who have never climbed and going from last time, the qualified climbers are more than happy to show you the ropes so to speak or if you prefer just spectate . There will be coffee / tea and some grub
  7. Your analyzing things too deeply Andy I was responding and commenting about Mesterh's comment, "So its ok for the main contractor to take all the profit and NONE of the risk?" Everybody should have insurance, the point being made was, should, if anything went wrong, the risk be with you the Subbie or the man whos job it actually is and who is ultimately in charge
  8. North enough to be far enough away from the south of England. You can use the adjacent M62 as a landing strip, it is 4 lanes wide on the west bound side and it's only 80 yards from the venue Seriously though, it's 3 hours drive from london and there may be a couple camping on site, and I say maybe. http://www.multimap.com/maps/?qs=HD6+3TU&countryCode=GB
  9. Well I fully understand what your on about Colin, I'm sure if someone gave the Judge a spliff, he'd see what you were saying too Sorry Colin, just in one of the take the mick moods tonight
  10. Ross, I have enhanced the photo using a specailist enhancing technique, what it does is see's through foreground interference to expose detail behind. As a result you can clearly see you are infact wrong, it is actually an old woman riding her bike with ET in the front basket. ...and what a happy Extra Terestrial he looks today don't you think?
  11. For that reason, the contractor cannot be responsible for every action of the subbie, it's down to the insurance companies to argue between themselves. The subbies will be claimed off first, if it is negligence on his part, it stays with him, if it can be apportioned to the contractor the subbies insurers will claim off him. How they determine or interpret blame is a whole new thread . In my MEWP accident, that is what really got my goat and really peed me off is, my passenger sues me, I sue the mewp retailer, the mewp retailer sues the manufacturer, each lawyer takes his cut along the line and so does each insurance company, who claim their costs. The only ones who make money is the insurance companies and Lawyers, but instead of going direct, all those down the line make money out of costs. One big scam is insurance mate, and if you find a loophole, it's soon shut down. Like the "he's self employed so I don't need EL insurance loophole" was.
  12. It's like has been said above Andy, you want to be a Contractor, you have got to accept the liabilities, you can't go driving round in your brand new range rover pricing jobs, getting someone in to do them for you, creaming money off the top with no liability whatsoever Nice if you can do it. What would happen if there were an accident is you would be sued on your insurance then your insurance would try to recover their losses from your employer, no doubt arguing he should have been supervising That's my take on it
  13. Nah, just tv celebs now, no time for us low life
  14. The employer should be in charge of the job and supervising, so under his supervision an accident shouldn't happen. If it does he should have foreseen it so he should use his insurance. If you employ someone, that someone should not be thrown into a big job without the employer first getting to know the subbies abilities, he should be started on small jobs if you have never used him before to find out how competent he is.
  15. Who does PL insurance without filling in a bible of a proposal form which is on par with the spanish inquisition ?
  16. The most frightening part of the job is making a huge hole in your roof and hoping it doesn't rain. The hole doesn't look big but it was 6ft high by 10ft across . My problem is trusting people to do the job right, I won't let anyone do anything for me. Last year I put my trust in an engine recon firm, bought an engine for the landy, put it in and have just changed it 12 months later because whoever built it was a muppet. If you want a job doing right, do it yourself is a very good saying
  17. Blummin ek, totally forgot, I haven't been down to check yet, will try to get down to give dogs a run tonight Been busy today clearing crap out of my garage, filled a large skip so far and started filling trailer with scrap, about a ton so far.
  18. "I'm not just a pretty Tree Surgeon" What you trying to say Ed, I'm not pretty I'll have you know I won the prettiest baby competition 43 years ago! Mind you, the competition wasn't that great. At least my mother loves me.
  19. It's more or less impossible to pick up a fault like that with so much contamination and oil about. When the bell housing came off it will have been smothered in oil which will have then been power washed off, you can't check for play in the gearbox input shaft because there is always a little there. The only way would to have been fit it and run it a while. As a little tip, unless you do a lot of deep water or deep mud wading, leave out the gearbox plug, that way you pick up these faults quickly because you'll leave an oil drip everywhere it's been parked. I know you bought it like that but in future at least you'll be able to plan the work. I've just changed the engine on my landy because of the rear engine oil seal. But I've known about it for 10 months, sourced a new engine and planned the fitting. The clutch was brand new 5k ago and was still bone dry
  20. How do you dry the blanks or discs without them splitting like someones cut a portion of cake out of them. I had to cut 100 discs for someone and the only way I got them not to split was to stack them so they dried slowly
  21. Thor is what I have. But the PTO vertical one, I bought it from Chris Shep a while ago and am chuffed to bits with it. That's the only problem I've found with vertical splitters is if the log isn't cut quite square, you have to hold it up with your knee. Picture in link below
  22. Keeps me in check, even the dogs are scared of her.
  23. Had two week at home, put a new engine in the Landrover, renewed all the discs and brakes and ripped the old dormer off the roof and fitted the biggest Velux's I could. Two velux's gone in side by side, only looks like I've fitted one. The scoul in the third photo is after the wife just told me how much she had spent The money I save by doing the jobs myself is enormous, I used to do building and roofing and am a fully qualified mechanic who worked mainly on Landrover, also coded welder for BNFL and done half a brick laying course. ...and yes, I know it takes twice as long building a house out of half bricks
  24. Did you tell him to hang on till you'd finished
