  1. If you have been burning "green" Ash for some time, you may have tard up the flue, which will inhibit the fire with any wood. Ash will burn well wet, but cleaner and hotter seasoned.
  2. Good question!! Where do I start, should have its own thread!! Here are a few. Its fun! You earn more! You can run your own firm with only a laborer (the more skilled they are the easier your life is) You can take on any tree! There are loads more but that a start!
  3. Its an anesthetic!, so we're still on track!
  4. This is wrong, sorry. Its a very long time since I was a school, I turned 39 yesterday
  5. Same God, just one is the roman and one the greek I think>
  6. Is your God Pan?? LOL!!
  7. Infact they could help cause one, as you are weakening the stem.
  8. Two tie in's! Tim will be pleased!! Although personally I would have the strop higher and the rope lower, I'd sooner cut my strop than my rope, plus when they are so close you could possibly cut both Not a dig mate!, I'm sure I've done it.
  9. So true Dean! I can remember when I was new to the industry, had a discussion with an NPTC'd guy. We were looking at a very large Oak that had a very even spread and would need some form of felling aid. I suggest a very large gob, to move the fulcrum back and put more weight forward, plus the nearer the middle if the stem you get the wider the hing and thus more holding wood. I knew this from my fire wood felling at home, hardly rocket science. He said "utter rubbish the size of the gob makes no difference at all!" NPTC, I believe, still teach 10 to 25% , this is a leftover from forestry felling for timber, imo, as the gob is lost timber.
  10. Indeed!! So more legislation will just make more paper work for us to deal with and the cowboys to ignore! So in real terms it will drive up our costs and give the "fly by nights" an even greater advantage!
  11. Sooooooooooo true! in so many ways!!!!!!!!
  12. This my point! Proof of competence is mandatory (not NPTC) BUT its not ENFORCED!! nor will it ever be! Driving licenses are enforced! to a point.
  13. There is a small square cut out in the oil tank hole, its in line with the bar of the saw, there is a similar cut out on the cap. line up the to cut outs, push down firmly and twist! Easy peasy!! Hope that helps!, Dave.

Spot on Dean!!! Never had a problem myself When I think back over the groundies I've had over the years their ability generally was directly linked to their competence at refitting the caps. The numptys could never do them!! When looking for staff I would recommend a "cap test" as part of the interview process

Sorry Peter, I've inly just seen this thread! This is a bugbear of mine, I had it out with stihl at the APF. Basically stihl have hundreds or maybe thousand of 660 castings with the screw thread and the won't be changing till they are used up I have told my dealer that the first one they get with new caps has my name on it!!
  16. True! but I won't!, I'll be somewhere else doing another
  17. I take it that "reduction" didn't go to well!!:scared1:
  18. Please don't take this the wrong way, but I would never climb using a rope that would not get me down in one. Far more important than a climbing groundie, IMO.
  19. I take it your joking?????????? I'd have gone bust this year if I followed that advice
  20. IMO, you cannot legislate a better world, and qualifications don't stop bad practice. Harold Shipman was very well qualified!!
