  1. Why do you want rear doors? In 12years and 3 different mogs I've never needed rear doors, a hole or flap at the top yes, but not doors.
  2. But Tom, that is how a sound community works. Its people who expect a favour with no reciprocation that cause the break down of society.
  3. We have just had a new Sainsbury's built near us, there is also Morrison's and Asda, so where is the monopoly???????? If as you say they are driving up prices thats got to be good for small producers, I think the reality is that in real terms prices are falling, making it harder for small producers to compete, but the small guys have the advantage of better quality (real or perceived) and are able to tell you about how and where it was produced, which I am happy to pay a little more for. I buy most of my meat from a local butcher, I can see the beef I am going to eat in the fields around my home. A few years ago every one was saying our dairy industry was dying, but now its on the up, most dairy farmers are increasing the size of their heard and becoming more efficient. Did you watch the Firnley-whitinstal (sp) program on chicken farming? The fat woman on there did not care one bit how her food was produced, she was only interested in the price, 2 large chickens for under £5!! WTF!! Unfortunately her sort make up a large proportion of the population, thats why we have soup opera's, Jeremy Kile, Big Brother, etc, etc. So if we did move to state control, we could end up loosing the opportunity to buy our free range, local and organic produce, as these less discerning types may well be in the majority.
  4. They should have got Reg in!!!! I have done similar many years ago:blushing:
  5. But why are Tesco so successful?? because people choose to go there. Unless you are proposing some sort of communist state control, things are left for the market to decide. I can if I so wish get all my shopping from farmers markets, small producers on line and all manner of other sources.
  6. That gets you no where.
  7. :congrats: If people don't like Tesco they don't need to go. Tesco are not holding a gun to anyones head and making them go in or use the automated tills. Things only succeed because people chose to use them.
  8. Unseasoned wood will tar up your chimney, leading too a chimney fire. It is also very waste full, as much of the calorific value will be wasted turning the water into steam.
  9. I really think you have a very rose coloured view of the past mate. In the past the haves could literally buy the have nots, going to labour markets and buying the next 5 years of a 15 year olds life of his parents. The have nots would die for the lack of food or medical attention. The gap between rich and poor now is just in the area of luxury, I don't eat any worse than the queen and I am as warm and well clothed as her. Life today is pretty sweet, IMO.
  10. We had the hardest winter for 30 years, could it be that??
  11. Good stuff!! I've lost count of the number of times I've been thinking "I don't have that much work in" and within a couple of days I'm thinking "how the hell am I going to get all this work done in time". I try to just relax now, the work just keeps coming, I've never run out of work in 17 years, so why would it happen know. I guess because we are the bread winners, we can't help worrying a bit.
  12. Cool!!! Glad its working out:thumbup1: I think when you get a Mog you very quikly either love it or hate it, I love mine
  13. Something like that can be such a good buy, and save so much effort.
  14. How you finding your mog????
  15. We only have big butch machines Mick!!! You'll have to put up some pic's of the "poofy" ones of which you speak:sneaky2:
  16. That looks very handy Tom, and at that price you can't go wrong. I've never done much hiring, I need to find out whats available locally.
  17. Fair investment then. It would need to save a lot of work to pay for its self.
  18. Ah yes!! It like many things in life, a bit more would always be nice:blushing:
  19. :001_huh:Does that not reduce your lifting capacity too much?? I can carry my grab on my own. I use strops for the big stuff.
  20. They don't even wait for them to be ripe:thumbdown:
  21. Rickets is back Stevie, due to children not getting enough fresh fruit and veg. And children are being admitted too hospital with malnutrition during the school holidays, as they are not getting their free school meal.
  22. I wonder if now we are in more uncertain economic times, firms can get cheap labour as and when required and so are less likely to make the investment require to buy big kit??
  23. I guess forestry has been more affected by mechanisation. With arb, access is always going to be an issue. I don't know how many firms use, tractors with front loaders or hiabs. Or do most find it more cost effective to just cut up and move by hand??
  24. True Stevie, but there has to be an overall reduction in people working, if machines are doing more of the work. Around me there used to be 5 farms, which would have had 2 or 3 workers each (including the farmer). There is now only one farm, farming all the land, with just the farmer, one labourer and contractors form time too time.
  25. Do you mind me asking what sort of money they cost???
