  1. The problem is any one can do a course maybe you should need abc levels from school would stop the numpties applying. I noticed that no shortage of workers or qualified surgeons and not enough jobs so to me it does make sense to get into it first then worry about tickets imo.
  2. I see what your saying makes sense i like doing that the bigger the chunk the less work in the tree. Im just trying out rigging down trunks normally just fell them onto the brash but this seems to be a better way. Could you post a vid of you blocking down a trunk would be useful to all i think.
  3. Well maybe i dont like it you entire weight has to be held and after along climb your energy is low and it becomes very hard. But hey the icicle really pisses over the vt i been going between the to latley with different cord ropes etc icicle has my trust minimal slip lots of grip much easier to ascend desend with icicle imo.
  4. Dont be so bloody cheap and by the right gear stihl did not spend untold amounts developing the stuff if its crap they charge that price for a reason cos its good but i get another chainsaw brand. Point is i do work for a firm who do this cheap oil and they go through alot of bars and chains the little pump in the chainsaw is designed to pump a certain viscosity. But each to there own
  5. Always good to see some tree work but reg did you need to lower everything looked like some good landing zone there but hey i was not there. Instead of a timber hitch could you use a sling and a girth hitch to secure the lowering pulley today removed big arsehole magnacraappii and i used that method worked well. But good vid nice job.
  6. 30kn equals 3000kgs aka 3 tonne break. If i remember right.
  7. Used a cambium saver today with my hitch climber but i used a icicle hitch with one wrap and it was excellent very impressed im now pulling above the hitch then tending the slack an its so much quicker. dont reccommend using a pulley with a cambium saver you need a little bit of friction to help hold your self while you slack tend the pulley makes this alot harder to hold your weight.
  8. Well it seems cost effective obvious reason for using it but i thought it was a thinner viscousity which can lead to premature bar wear but i think they saving outways the minimal increase in wear.
  9. The problem is the people with the power to make decisions are the rich the people who get mugged off are the working class. They make rules that make them richer and us poorer this country does not care about its people it only cares about how much money it can take from you.
  10. Well ive always been the idiot that tries to ice skate up hill but hey. I figure no ones going to give me nothing so ill just get it myself. Thanks for the positive comment when i get my certs ill post em then jump on the band wagon lol. Well last note yeah its hard work not just doing the tree work but the running side of it to but i got nothing but time on my hands. A no money to haha but im sure in time ill make my first pound.
  11. Well i appreciate you seeing it through my eyes. I have only started for a short while on my own and havent had time to go through my nptc i will be this year as its about time. I just try to make a point that lot of tree quality is down to each person but i fully agree nptc's at least provide proof some one is at the very least competant. I would never promote working unqualified just that alot of us dont run before we can walk and getting work to pay for my courses is my priority.
  12. Well if you dont work with unqualified climbers how can you know that or are you just speculating. I work with both all day every day. Its not the qualifications that makes a cowboy its the person. Put it this way im a small outfit i just cant afford any accidents because its me that will feel the sting there fore i take my time and care compared to big companys who have people that are on a wage what ever happens. I know there are alot of idiots i would not let use a choc ice and nptc should help get rid of them which is great but people like me who are good and competant but lack thousands of pounds to spare on courses that are not legally required. I dont have a big company paying for me its all out of my wallet which is small right now lol. Therefore some people just take abit longer to get qualfied but that doesent make them any worse than a guy with a ticket. Its in meters but works out a guess 65ft not tree heigh but im allowed to climb i found this adequate for me.
  13. We are on the verge of financial disaster this countrys debt is incredible 65% 40ish million people are in debt rough figure. Our industry will be torn apart by such a thing only the big contract companys will remain but like all things the small business will come back the big companys get greedy when there is no competition which allows new companys to start up cheaper.
  14. Before they even start they ask do you hold a chainsaw license answer no ok some insurers wont offer a policy here are the ones that do simple and after you buy insurance and then you get your tickets you dont save alot any way as experiance earns discounts. I find it funny that you think you need a cert to get insurance who do you get your information from just look online and you will see. My insurer even said we have more certified arborists having accidents than the ones with out the certification they act like a car insurance if you dont you have no accidents you premium goes down i pay abit more than some one with a cert but im fully covered as my PL states to provide gardening and tree felling maintanance although i have a height limit.
  15. This is getting stupid there putting everything up except wages look out for the biggest recetion ever
  16. Im insured to protect myself from idiots. And what qualifications mean your good no they mean you can pass an assesement . well from what i been hearing on here they want to add refreshers.
  17. Look after your gear it will look after you. When it rains your ropes dont just get wet they get covered in green crap from some trees also sap from furs and pines. Well im only going by what i learnt.
  18. Well its not to bad here i only cleaned my ropes maybe three times this year i dont mean if its a light shower just when they get soaked and covered in the green shite Or sap.
  19. The aa is good but it needs to lower its rediculous standards there is such a thing as OTT. NPTC should be more than acceptable i would only want to display there logo to show professionalism and if they stated to become a member you need say cs30-31-38-39 but have different classes for those with more tickets a higher class. that would be fine it would show people you at least trained and competant and then the arb industry would all be aa aprooved increasing quality and reducing pikeys if people were informed only to use aa members and our prices wernt rip off then it would work. As it is they will never be a great org only ok the do some good thats it.imo
  20. I hear ya . Thats good because more contractors will be looking at that type of work while us little firms do the private work could work well. but if to many trees are overpruned we could face killing off alot of the industry. I think tree works will have a limit one day every tree will need tpo permission we need to preserve the trees now before this becomes a problem. Hey who knows these things:wave:
  21. I would recommend hand washing your ropes after every wet day its not hard at all and the ropes will last alot longer after a year it still looks brand new. Plus it is alot easy to move on a clean line I will deteriate the rope if repeatly done.
  22. After 4 odd years it was time to make a real living out of this and its in its early stages but its looking very good for me i have all the right people around me oldman owns a treecompany brother works for another alot of my mates work in the tree ind. Money is not the issue for me tho but i want to create a succsesful business which i can be proud of one that offers exceptional quality with honest prices Love being outside love trees love climbing ill never do anything else Cant get enough of them summer days logging up. The smell of sawchips freinds working with you having a good laugh and earning abit of money And the pride in what i do.
  23. They can voice problems to the government and they will listen to an organisation. One little nick tho is why arnt people on here members. I think its a good thing i would like to display there logo to show professionlism so it gives you something back once you comply with there requirments. So that its motivation to join if people came to know the logo as excellence more of us who really like the job would aim to achieve this. The aa has alot more potential than its currently showing but it needs to accept nptc users as competant i did apply for an info pack and if im right not sure but you need nvq's etc to join and display the logo. But on the whole a good org but needs a client boost more arbs need to apply and join.
  24. PL insurance is cheap any way for what it is as long as your insured thats the main thing and you dont need even to be qualified. trust offer 525 for qualifed but you can get better than that especially if your qualifed.
