  1. You missed the question mark off the end of your introductionary statement...
  2. I'm afraid the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 (the most recent primary legislation) still includes dead material in the TPO exemptions regardless of any new aboricultural practices. Therefore treating dead material as exempt is not breaking the law - you would not be prosecuted under the T&CPA for removing it. If it forms a habitat for protected species... that would be a different thing (singularly more complicated as well!)
  3. Damn skippy. As a consumer - anything that increases production benefits me!
  4. Could you run it through some sort of riddler to dump the twigs???
  5. I think there's a product there Ed. Even if you employed some labour to sort it - the production rate would be higher when processing the smaller diameter stuff, safer too. If your running a biomass boiler unit, I don't suppose you care about twigs going in with the logs... Like Dean say - just shovel it in!!! It would certainly dry quicker than larger logs?!?!
  6. Ha Tull - I see your granny knot and raise you a triple granny knot sealed with a "I've been a brave boy" sticker from the dentists... Now that's strong
  7. You could call it a 'chopper' instead of a 'chipper'??? I like it.
  8. There is a standard AA/Lantra pro-forma included in the course booklet. It's not related to any proprietry system such as THREATS / STORM / ISA / QTRA - its simply a table that requires the following info... Number Species Age Height Spread Condition Recommendations Work Priority Re-inspection Interval Its a standardised pro-forma to allow the examiner to compare the candidates on a level playing field so to speak.
  9. Ha ha - Good work buddy!

  10. Hang on Reg... I 've seen that design somewhere else. Joking aside - looks like a solid helm! I look forward to having a proper gander one day.
  11. Most users of that cord will use a VT rather than a compact hitch with long legs. If you don't like long legs... use a shorter bit of cord!!
  12. Petzl make a small gold ring to run the bridge through Mikey. You clip into the ring which is just big enough for a karbiner but not big enough to slip over the larger gold rings. Or you can make a custom bridge like so...
  13. Even better info!!! Respect always due to those who correct themselves! (I have to do it daily!!!)
  14. Thanks Xerxes - Good info
  15. Ok - The four joint runners up (see how I cunningly avoided ranking them! ) are, in no particular order... Phenom - Ink Cap RC0 - Laetiporus sulphureous Monkeyd - Rancid fly covered stinking fungal manhood Twiggy - Polyporus squamosus Well done, PM me your addresses and I'll send you your prizes!!
  16. Don't buy it!!! The draft will be updated and amended - may even be a completely different beast. Expect the final product to be about £90.
  17. Charles swore under his breath - where did this crowd come from?? It was bad enough putting the backcut in with the boss watching...
  18. At the risk of derailing - the consultation period for the draft BS3998:2008 ended on the 5th November (after an extension from the 31st Oct). The draft is still floating about somewhere as a .pdf but I have no idea when the finished BS will be on the shelf so to speak...
  19. Moments later, an appropriate NPTC unit was developed...
  20. Ha - nothing like being dropped in it I'll have a look today at some point!!
  21. Or Birch?? Betula pendula 'dalecarlica' What was the fruit/bark like???
