  1. Anything that reduces risk generally must be a good thing - but not many of us are perfect when it comes to H&S, but it helps if you are aware it exists. Seen that fellow's trimmed finger end on the log last week gave most of us a reality check!
  2. Ah thanks. Never seen a flow divider. Does it have a flow and return in/out and 2 flows out and 2 returns in? If the tractor puts out 20ltrs/min, would each circuit recieve 10l/min each? If that is the case the 2 splitters in theory may cycle at 7.6 seconds each approx. if both used at the same time. I may be off track with this yet again, please correct me if so. They sound expensive.
  3. There can be, however the splitter requires both hands to control its operation so well away from the splitting area. At below pto speed the cycle time is 6 seconds, which is where we shall set the stop. Annual machine safety inspections due soon, so I will get the guy to assess it during his visit and discuss if he has any issues with it being tractor powered and a cycle time of 6 seconds. Certainly do not want any liability, which is why I pay a qualified firm with P.I. Insurance to sign off all the kit. I expect you do the same.
  4. Interesting feed back. Piped up 1 splitter off Tractor and instead of a (12") cycle time down and back up of 10.8 seconds it now takes 4.8 seconds. 100% success!
  5. Some posted a week or so ago that Certainly Wood have changed their PINOSA PROCESSOR as it was underperforming. If that is the case does anyone know what they replaced it with? I always thought PINOSAS were a top end machine.
  6. Most processors can be enhanced with a section of plate secured to the log stop to prevent short logs rotating so easily as they fall into the splitting chamber ? (not made one yet though)
  7. Agreed without a tandem pto pump 2 is not realistic. We have a Thor and a german electric used for ring quarters and plenty of power with an electric to futher break these down and if the cycle time can be increased then a worthwhile excercise. Just too slow as standard.
  8. Thanks for the post, but having read your earlier post and with my prior research I appreciate the only way to successfully run 2 splitters off a power uinit is with a tandem pump. Just going with a pair of Hyd. pipes and 1 splitter.
  9. If you are charging for advice on whatever level you need to make sure your P.I Insurance and qualifications will stand up to scrutiny. Have no delusions that when push comes to shove you will be right in the firing line should a significant tree related event occur that results in litigation.
  10. Ah the power of deduction - but seriously running an 11tonne tractor splitter on tractor - cycle time is 10 secs, so a 6 tonne electric should be approx. 1/2 that time, maybe less. Only time will tell, results will be posted. Thanks for replying
  11. Thanks for the post. Sometimes you just have to give it a go. At the end of the day we are only talking about a couple of lengths of 1/2" hose with unions and if it speeds up the ram cycle significantly everyones happy, if not the hoses fit plenty of other machines on site. I'll post the findings in due course.
  12. If I instruct a professional to give me advice the first thing I look for is some heavy duty letters after their name and these are not something you can buy. Give advice on trees and you are generally taking on board the liability for the tree. Looking at something credible like Tech.Cert.Arb., FdSc.Arb. No shortcuts here I would suggest. Hope this helps a little.
  13. There are grants available, but they seemed to require match funding not on finance, which most do not have available. Perhaps there are grants that do not stipulate this criteria?
  14. Perhaps his business model is not that bad after all! Don't think many on the Forum can stretch to New harvester, forwarder though.
  15. Most reputable main dealers will diagnose the issue for a set fee, then you can decide who resolves the issue. EG. Main dealer VW £90 all in where I live. Call the main LR dealer and ask. Good luck.
  16. Has they guy his own harvester and forwarder then or does it the hard way?
  17. Hire will be best for you then unless you are into serious quantities and have a base machine for the Lasco cone splitter. Google it if you are interested. Like all 'non roundwood' timber, its pot luck what size logs you get out the processor combined with lots of rubbish, which is where an inline screener pays off.
  18. Bit the bullet - trailer it to a Landrover dealership and get back to work and put in a few long days!
  19. Are you not keen on a Lasco? Then you won't be limited on length.
  20. The splitters are actually rated at as high a psi as the tractor will produce having tested its output. Easier to connect to spool valves on both splitters in this instance and use tractors relatively large hyd oil sump. I expect to hear from Treequip again on the topic, as for sure he consistently gives great advice. May be a futile excercise but that is why I posted initially.
  21. TP - Inexpensive in comparison to many and if you decide this business is hard to make a decent living from it will be easy to move on. Good luck.
  22. Very nice - but nothing to concern yourself with, go back to the Forum.
  23. Can you actually get 2.5 m3 bags out of a tonne of Ash? Everyone else in the UK seems to think only 2m3 is realistic.
