  1. Looking for some cutting in Dorset or Somerset if anyone knows of any please..
  2. Thanks so much that's great news , I wanted a resurface but they don't do them down here (Dorset) any more . I'll probably end having them both done at some point , but the left is proper knackered ...I will be happy if I can do a few little climbs, no all day jobbies . Thanks again you've made my day , I was a bit down in the mouth about it all today
  3. Anyone had a hip replacement , and still climb ? I'm due for one in a few months due to impingement , doc recons it will be out of the question . Not climbing full time any more anyway but really would miss it ... plus i just bought a new rope at the arb show.
  4. Need a tip site next week if anyone could help please. Approx 20 ton of good old conifer . Cheers
  5. Milled the main stem today , no cracking at all . Think it could have been some over zealous wedging . Got out some really nice planks , I'm hooked
  6. One piece at 2m long pretty much split in half . Ive got the main stem to do tomorrow just don't want to make a load of firewood .
  7. Pretty new to milling , but landed a common walnut job for this week . Milled a couple of pieces at 2.5 inches thick which cracked almost straight away . Is this normal for walnut ? Should it be milled thicker to avoid this ?
  8. Forwarder driver wanted for south west . Covering Dorset , Somerset , Wiltshire and Hampshire . FMOC a must , cs 30 and cs31 an advantage .Please phone Jack on 07837646033.
  9. Thanks , that's what I wanted to hear . I may strim or spray round each plant , the light level will decrease as the new stools grow anyway ! Cheers everyone GRAZON!!
  10. Thanks for the replies, we are planning to plant hazel to coppice about a acre a year . Its a seven acre wood which is predominately ash , so its ideal for growing a coppice crop but also ideal for nettles and brambles . I'm just concerned about the competition on the new plants .
  11. I have strimmed the tops off along the paths , the remainder is so dense that I needs some control . Cheers
  12. After some advice on spraying nettles in woodland please . Is there a selective herbicide that just kills nettles ? I don't want to use glyphosate and total everything .
  13. Anyone know a good wildflower seed suplier ? been searching the web which is just confusing me . Doing approx 50 m2 to start with.
  14. We put in a planning application for a barn, the nice man came out for a site inspection. Next week we had a letter asking us to remove all our wood as it was not arisings from the land, and the barn was out of the question. So we used a privateer planning chap to scrap it out with the LA , no luck on the barn yet but we can keep our wood .
  15. Those cameras look great ! We've just blocked up the gate they got through with a muck speader , until tommorow when it gets filled with 10 ton of rubble. And shelled out for a load of cropper proof chain .I recon it was about 10 + cube if it was sawn up . I guess i will have to leave everything in long lenths so they cant move it !
  16. Just visited my nicely stacked pile of billets , to find that every piece has been robbed . It must have taken a hour to shift , by the looks of the tyre tracks it was a 4x4 and another vehicle on the road .And just to top that ive got the squitts from our nipper, so all in all a good weekend so far. P.S the wood was nr wincanton in somerset , beware the ****** are about !
  17. Anyone got any tips on storing a 200t ? my spare saw runs like a bag of spanners if its been out of use for a while. Does anyone else get have the same problem or is it the saw as she is getting on a bit.
  18. Im thinking of buying some wood this year , where do i get it from ? Ive contacted the local estate but they no longer sell their wood as they do logs themselves.
  19. This has probably been done already, but how is roadside timber priced ? Ive spoken to a few people and just got more confused, is it per tonne or cubic metres .And say its £40a cube does that allow for air spaces ? , so would i get a cube and a half of cut and split logs from a cube roadside?????
  20. Mine soon got dubbed the tighty brightys , bit to hot for the legs and tackle for my liking .
  21. Chap i work with went to the arb show and bought himself a art positioner ,which he is now using on his main line .I have mentioned that it is not intended for use in this way but he aint having it ! any thoughts...?
  22. I like it ! did a few last week using a 200t , if you a get a good work position dont think theres a problem really . Same with any chainsaw use in the tree, if your splitting your kipper to make the cut then your gonna come unstuck !
  23. Hi is the landy sold ?

  24. Cheers chaps , the lands is a friends . The nice man said the timber cannot come from outside and it can only be stored if it has arised from the land .I guess it is a change of use thing ,bet if the land was changed to business use they would charge me a packet in rates...
  25. Had the planning inforcement officer around today about the timber we have stored on a small holding , he wants it shifted as it is arisings from outside and not connected with the holding.Think someones been moaning in the village , anyone had any dealings with this lot seems a bit petty really. There was a magic moment we he slipped on his arse on the way out ,every cloud !
