    teamwork!

[ame] [/ame] I'm not really into posting or even watching poor workmanship, but there's something about these guys that tickles me. Maybe its the bad hair! I dont think he even realised that when the top finally did come over, it first hits the tree in front which then sends it off sideways (watch carefully), a more substantial contact and and who knows.....he may have gotten hurt.

    Portable Winch

Hmmm, I’m not sure what to think now. The versatility is what I'm most attracted to, but its not much use if, for whatever reasons, it falls short on guts and durability. I'll ask around a little more, thanks for the info guys:icon14:
  7. http://www.proclimber.co.uk/catalogue/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=87&products_id=261&zenid=31f818f25ad93cb99782941ca8306d6f This could be a worth-while investment for me, even though it works out a little more expensive than what I'd expected. Has anyone ever used one of these winches? The write-up has little mention of the mechanics, I’d like to know what happens when the load it too heavy! Any knowledge on this product or similar powered winches would be appreciated. Thanks
  8. Sound good from here Shansen, looks quite a big venue also. You must be very proud, how long has he been playing?
  9. Congratulations, 40 years, thats quite something. Here's hoping you can take it to half a century:beerchug:
  10. pecontools, A scene from War of the Worlds perhaps? Remind me not to lend you any of my gear:corkysm21:, what happened?

Hey good on you Drew, stick with it mate. Tell us about your work scene when you get chance, you might be able to tempt a few others.
  12. Hey Deva, happens to everyone, but the cream always rises to the top, so hang in there. Weather looked rough on that second pine! That’s the first time I’ve seen the GRCS man-lift technique, heard about it though. Right after a big lunch is when I’d be most appreciative. It would be nice to hear a little more about this set-up. Great vid.

Hello Adam, stay where you are, you’re missing nothing here. I worked in Auckland 99-2000, had a great time, couldn’t really fault it. Although, I did get tired of hearing how great the Allblacks were all the time, and the Blackcaps, and Blacksocks (hockey I think), yeah really quite annoying as I recall. But other than that, the place has everything so long as you can get a living. Are you permanent? If so how? Contrary to popular belief, Arborists are not on the Long Term Skills Shortage List, so what’s the story mate?

Excuse my lazyness Tockmal but the explanations are in this thread over on treebuzz. http://www.treebuzz.com/forum/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=113651&an=0&page=0#113651 dont bother looking at the attachments, they're just the same as the ones in the picture thread here on Arbtalk.

Yeah I know, but I'd have had to choose at least 4 songs and by the time I'd finished editing the boredom had really taken hold. Thanks for the positive comments though guys, I'm glad it wasn't all for nothing.
  16. This is the video of the split Beech tree that I posted pictures of. Actually, its two video’s taken over the consecutive Saturdays. The first one starts a little dark, as was the day, but the quality improves so hang in there. The second one is much brighter Some peculiar sounds on both so turn up your volume. About 20 minutes to watch both. Thanks Day 1 [ame] [/ame] Day 2 [ame] [/ame]

    Split beech tree

I didn't really have a say in why it was decided to bring the trunk down, another contracter won the job, he then asked me to do it for him. My wife actually took the better pictures of the bunch, she was pretty safe.

Hey sorry about that sideways picture, I forgot to turn it around. I thought there were two more but there's actually just one more of the stump. Today had actually been the dry and sunny, and I was quite relieved that everything had gone to plan...no hiccups at all.

  22. Here's a job we did over the last couple of Saturdays. We did it in two stages so the groundworkers at the golf course could clean up some of the debri in between the 2 Saturdays. There's more to come after the first batch, so hang on!
  23. Nice clear skies Ed. Great for pictures. I swear my eyes become magnets for sawdust on such windy days. Nothing much worse than dead ash either. Well done:icon14:
  24. Hey where’d my post go? Here it is again John The swiveling Krab I assume is for convenience of alignment. It works very well. It is rated at 2500 kN down the spine. The rope grab is also ISC while the hi-vis flip-line and climbing rope are both Yale. I do like the Red/orange colour of these particular lines. Even when dirty they’re still unmistakable against tree/vegetation-type colours. One less thing to worry about I suppose. Ive been trying real hard not to accidently spike either of my beautiful new ropes, as as happened in the past. So far so good:proud: Tim, I don’t know if those slits serve an actual purpose. Perhaps it’s just a means of lessening the alloy content. That picture you refer to was low resolution.
  25. It slipped my mind earlier but I meant to also point out the fact that the fixed side-D’s do a great job of isolating the karabiner where it attaches from your flip line. So there is even less chance of it snagging on another component and coming undone; for this reason you have great visibility of it also and would be quick to recognize if something were out of place.
