Old people, it seems, have some kind of phobia towards trees. My father, who is getting on in age, has, in the last few years, taken to hacking off lumps off his nice apple trees. He had managed to leave them unmolested for around 35 years.

Yesterday, Saturday, I was down my local football club watching my eldest lad taking part in his football training. On one side of the pitch are several former pollarded Willows that have been left to grow to a, in my judgment, a fairly dangerous height. So there I was watching my sons football skills when I spied a guy with no PPE wielding a Makita saw cutting the tree from the football clubhouse roof. Naturally I was expecting a easy "You've Been Framed" 250 quid, so I went over to do a little cell phone video recording. I finished recording when I got a ugly stare from the saw operator, I quickly returned to my sons football match with a casual air of innocence, five minutes later I was approached by the football club chairmen who asked me why I was filming his guy in the tree, I replied that I was waiting for a accident to happen and was horrified at the risks the cutter was taking. He then asked me if I could help them out and that they, (The Football Club) have set aside a budget to have the trees cut back professionally. Sometimes, it pays to be a nosy bastard.

I have not had one HSE site visit, ever, well maybe once, but that was in Northern Ireland so that will probably not count? My friend has had a site visit but didn't even get a request for his LOLER records.
