  1. I believe pest control has lost it's Ag status, as I think gamekeeping has. It's deemed sport management. Im not 100% on this, but I was told something along these lines the other day. Will find out ASAP if I can.
  2. Crazy, maybe, foolhardy, possibly, but isn't this sort of have-a-go attitude that bred some real men in this country before the onset of the H&S mindset? Capt Scott wouldn't have gone to the Antarctic, Hilary wouldn't have scaled Everest, we wouldn't have won the Battle of Britain and so on. Of course it's dangerous and risky, that's the whole point, sort of thing that puts hairs on your chest like wrestling crocodiles. Of course, this is only my opinion and as such counts for nothing, and this sort of escapade has no place in the workplace!
  3. I've just read back through this part of the thread, and noticed your post above. I became "sort of" stressed out, ie every little thing started to annoy me last year, shortly before I became run down. I'd given up the smoking, and was a little more irritable I suppose. By October I was becoming more and more ill, and in in November I was in hospital. Apparently my auto immune system attacked my colon leading to Ulcerative Colitis in a most severe form. Was stress the trigger? Who knows... Even the medical team don't really know what lead to my UC, but a combination of circumstances certainly built up to quite a nasty little problem. I may have a strong positive attitude to dealing with my ailment, but inside I also have the same concerns and worries as anyone else rattling around my head, right now I'm stressing slightly about the next stage of my treatment and building fitness.
  4. Aye, when I were a lad.........
  5. In the 9 weeks I was in the hospital, I looked out of the windows at those trees, among others, planning imaginary fells, take downs and other surgery techniques, to keep the mind active oh it didn't work
  6. I think we should remember that everyone has a different perception of danger and risk. The OP has identified something that is a hazard to him, if wearing a protector makes him feel safer to carry out his job. To him it's a very real risk. I wear a support belt to stop my body herniating, has it ever happened... No, will it happen..... Who knows, but I have now identified a new risk to myself since the operation and prevention is better than cure. Yes it will be hot in the summer, probably unbearable, but necessary to me all the same. Another chap I know wears SIP arm protectors on both arms, no idea why, but it makes him feel safer no doubt.
  7. I going to go slightly against the grain here. You are responsible for your own H&S, if you have identified a risk to yourself then it's up to you to take reasonable precautions to protect yourself from that risk. Is back and neck protection a step to far? Maybe for me it would be, but for the OP, he has seen someone close pick up a series of nasty injuries which may or may not have been avoided. By wearing the protection it gives him the confidence to carry out his duties safely. I suspect in time he will ditch the armour and go back to normal. Me, I'd like the freedom of movement to skip gracefully out of the way if needed. Each to their own. I wonder if we could step back in time, with all our new dangled safety gear, in to a forestry environment, how our predecessors would have seen us? "Pah! All that protection, you can't be any good!"
  8. NI Tree pm'ed me and asked I post this in for him, i just want to say thank you for being impartial, but would you be able replace my last post with this NI i would like to say a very big thanks Hazzygawa for starting this radom but fun thread, to Mr Collins for being for impartial and prefosonalism over this dealing with this thread, (also all the work he and all the rest of the mods put in) but not forgetting Geoff for his out standing generosity not just in this thread but others as well. This is what i love about arbtalk, you never now how a thread going to turn out, and the generosity of every. NITree, thank you, it's nice to be appreciated now and again
  9. I'll give you a couple of minutes to congratulate each other, pats on backs and kisses on both cheeks, to thank your producers, then I'll cut you off and shut the thread. Bye
  10. Ok so we have a "winner" in this complete joke of a thread. Personally I cannot believe the enthusiasm, but there you go. So to the winner and everyone else, thanks for competing in this. thanks to Geoff for putting up the prize of the hand saw. I now officially confirm that this thread is closed, the winner pm Geoff your details. I judge NI Tree to be the nearest poster to the exact time the watch stopped.
  11. I believe Geoff mentioned a Silky hand saw.
  12. Still ticking away happily...... Must stop soon... It really must!
  13. Oh a doubting Thomas in the ranks, of course there is an alleged watch! How else would I wait for it to stop?
  14. I have a hand wound pocket watch ticking away patiently, when it stops will determine the closure of the thread, and the last poster at that time will be the "winner". Normal forum rules apply as far as language etc go. Oh and my my decision is final.
  15. Ok. If thats where we are going I'm going to smash the watch oh and thanks Geoff for offering up a prize in this totally meaningless and otherwise dull thread
  16. Morning all, still ticking, when is this blessed watch going to stop.......?
  17. Still ticking away merrily....
  18. Lord help us, I watched some kind of top 40 pop music the other day. What has gone wrong, it's utter rubbish, how do you sing along to it?
  19. Well seeing as I don't know what time the watch will stop, could be tonight, could be in the wee small hours, could be while I'm frying me bacon and eggs tomorrow, it'll not make any difference if youre in the pub or not. And with modern technology if winning the coveted title "Arbtalks Biggest Loser" is so important, it's dead easy to keep posting.
  20. HA! Amateur moderator Mr Blair:001_tt2: ok I'm going to end this fairly, I have a wind up pocket watch, which needs rewinding in the evening. If not.... It stops! The time it stops on will decide the winning loser.
