  6. Things are ridiculously expensive. We popped out to a local garden center yesterday for something to do. 1 coffee, 1 coke, 2 cakes, and 2x softplay at Β£2 each cost Β£19, before we even spent any money on anything else
  7. The purchase of a GreenMech EVO 205D has brought additional strength and performance to the fleet of Norwich’s Crown Tree Services. Upsizing from a 6” road tow unit, Owner James Basey-Fisher has not only been impressed with the EVO’s ability to tackle all types of timber and brash, but also the service received from GreenMech and local dealers Thurlow Nunn Standen (TNS) since the delivery of the unit in early 2024. Established in 2015, Crown Tree Services offer the full range of tree surgery and arboricultural services to domestic and commercial customers in and around Norwich and Norfolk. β€œI’ve known Neal Hussey for a good few years, and upon joining GreenMech, he got in touch with me at a time when I was toying with upsizing and upgrading our primary road tow unit” James explains. β€œWe had a demonstration of the 8” EVO 205D and were seriously impressed – it has outstanding pull and processing power and sits nicely behind the truck giving us a great set-up for work in residential areas.” The 205D extends the EVO concept of more powerful bite, torque and throughput. Its deep beam, high tensile steel chassis delivers tremendous strength and robust reliability, while the generous in-feed hopper ensures the free-flow of large brash and bulky material. β€œIt complements our existing tracked woodchipper really well, and has become our go-to day-to-day machine for jobs that demand strength along with reliable power and performance.” β€œAnother thing about the EVO is the ease of maintenance and servicing” he adds. β€œIt’s clear that the design has the regular upkeep in mind. The chip chamber fully hinges open to allow good access to the flywheel, and things like the replacement of filters and changing between blade sets is simple with more space to work in.” On top of impressive performance, James has also been pleased with the support received from dealers TNS. β€œCommunication has been brilliant throughout, everything from organising the demonstrations at convenient times to answering any and all of our questions! The aftercare in general has been second to none really. We rely on our equipment and need it running at its best, and knowing we have that level of support from TNS and GreenMech is a huge plus.”

  22. STIHL GB proudly announces the grand opening of its new, purpose-built head office and state-of-the-art distribution centre named Contra House, ushering in a new chapter of innovation and service excellence for the business. Dr. Nikolas Stihl, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the STIHL Group, presided over the opening ceremony, marking a significant milestone in the company's long history. Named Contra House in homage to the iconic STIHL Contra chainsaw invented by STIHL founder Andreas Stihl, this expansive 11,500m2 facility reflects STIHL GB’s dedication to providing unparalleled support to its dealers and end users. Home to more than 100 staff, Contra House is meticulously designed to enhance operational efficiency, customer service, and employee well-being. The new site features best-in-class dealer training facilities and a studio, collaborative workspaces, an on-site restaurant, and a fully-fitted technical workshop, ensuring seamless support for STIHL GB's 700-strong Approved Dealer network. At the heart of the operation lies the 9,000m2 distribution centre, which boasts next-generation picking and storage systems. This consolidation of logistics onto one site enables STIHL GB to streamline operations, resulting in a speedier and more efficient delivery service. Kay Green, Managing Director of STIHL GB, said: "The unveiling of Contra House symbolises a significant step forward in our commitment to product innovation and providing exceptional service to our customers and dealer network. We are thrilled to unveil the new facility, which not only embodies our rich heritage but also stands as a testament to our vision for the future.” Contra House distinguishes itself not only through its modern design and functionality but also its dedication to sustainability. The facility has proudly achieved BREEAM Certification, with features such as photovoltaic solar panels covering two-thirds of its roof area and 21 electric vehicle charging points, aligning with STIHL GB's commitment to responsible business practices. The official opening event, attended by more than 160 guests, also outlined STIHL GB’s partnership with Perennial, the UK’s only charity dedicated to helping people in horticulture. The STIHL team will volunteer in a wide range of fundraising activities to help the charity provide free and confidential advice, information and support to people working in, or retired from, horticulture and their families.
