  1. Sorry to hear that Dominic. So they drilled the lock and cut the metal?
  2. As far as the arb specific cords go I actually liked this cord, but at £22 a time id sooner just buy a zigzag
  3. For occassional use, i'd say go for it. Mitox is the one cheap brand that seems to have an ok reputation(and spares backup)
  4. Keep me in mind if you need web hosting. Its a service I will be offering imminently
  5. Ok so I guess we have narrowed it down to Spruce then!!
  6. It can be done Mark but its rare, and often not replicated when you change cord, or even once its a bit more worn
  7. Are the aerial roots common with that variety of ash David?
  8. Rare to find things for free these days Timon
  9. Those are some thin discs Timon!! Someone got a bad back?
  10. It was at the time I was using it, I check the breaking stength and it was well within the parameters. It doesn't last as long as some of the super duper heat resistant cords, but it performs better, and cost about £1 a meter!
  11. both LOSC. I used to take the big ginger ninja who I believe you know.
  12. *****FREE WOOD WASTE DISPOSAL***** We are based opposite the Kent show ground, and we currently have a tree surgeon tipping their tree waste on our farm on a FREE basis. We then use this to Bed our cattle. We have now taken on a lot more cattle, so we need ALOT more chipping. If you have any chipping, whole trees, stumps, logs, trunks etc that you need to get rid of after a job, you can tip with us on a FREE basis. Come as little or as often as you would like. We do NOT have a limit about how much we can take. We can take any shape and make of tree/chipping. If we can be of any help to you please get in touch. If you have a large base already where you have stored this all, please get in touch and I could arrange a collection too.
  13. I used to take my own groundsman, it is the best way to do it. I rarely work with people who can run the ropes exceptionally, and certainly work with none at the moment I would trust to do BIG rigging with. Just the other day I had to move my foot in a hurry as the groundsman didn't let the lump run as instructed.
  14. Thought so, just the eye looked a lot tighter than they normally get them. Awesome rope. If you can get hold of some marlow double braid sailing rope it will perform better than anything else on that rope, cheap as chips too https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CLEARANCE-Marlow-Doublebraid-Sailing-Marine-Rope-8mm-x-6-5m-Red-Fleck/272885944302?hash=item3f89450fee:g:cLoAAOSw6DtYSXxn
  15. how long? what length cord and how many wraps do you do? I used to use 120cm and 3 wraps, 2 braids
  16. Not tried Gecko, How is it to the feel? A good rule of thumb is if your rope is hard use a soft friction cord, and vice versa. I would personally always use 8mm with a vt too.
  17. Job to say exactly without watching you climb in person but the few obvious things here are: You don't body thrust with a hitch climber, at least not in the conventional sense as you are used to with a prussik, rather you pull yourself up hand over hand and then hold yourself in position whilst you tend through the slack, before advancing further. The safety nuts amongst us will typically advise 3 pulls before tending slack...ie right, left, right, then hold yourself with the right hand whilst tensing slack with the left. Hope that makes sense? In reality most people probably take a lot more than 3 pulls before pausing to tend slack. Out of all those knots the vt performs best in my opinion(and experience), but it is a very finniky knot to get right. The legs of the hitch need to be exactly the right length. Too short and the knot becomes hard and unworkable, too long and it doesn't bite reliably without manually setting it. Add to this, you could have that leg length absolutely perfect but if you have got the wrong hitch cord/rope combination it will still perform utterly crap. Did you seek advice on what cord to buy with whatever rope you are using?
  18. Not sure if any of the landscapers on here might be interested in this freshly dug up turf??
  19. Awesome. How much time does it take up?
  20. Absolutely, self contained is the only way to be. I even take my own rake
