It might be a location dowel for the pull cord casing to match up with the body. -

Get the oak outside after the winter then leave it out. I have taken down 3 elm just a few weeks ago because they had got too big for safely being where they were. Be careful where you plant the elm . What type of oak is it?

Slept in my ballistics that year with coat and hat. No heating in the house. The marmite froze in the cupboard and the olive oil also froze on the worktop....

Woooooosh. Battered around here all night. Bit of front garden fence needs repairing. Roof tiles rattled all night but stayed on and the coastguard weather station I use has recorded 2847 knots average wind speed...... One of my oak trees has been dead wooded tho so that's a job off the list. Coffee and chocolate then fencing...
