Weight of wood chip.

Does any body know the approxamate wight of wood chip per cm2 wet / dry and how much it is affected by species.

I don't know how you guys measure them over there, but in the U.S. the general consensus is that a yard of wood chip 3'x3'x3' (27cu/ft) is around 500-550lbs.

We need to change the yard to cm2 and lb to kg,

Any one good at maths?????

We need to change it to a M3 (cubic meter)

A cube of fresh chip will weigh 350kgs, but up to 450kgs if it gets wet. Species can alter weights aswell as density.

Poplar chip can be very heavy as it is such wet wood.

Usually I work on 350kgs per cube.

I fill my truck up when I have too, I'll measure l x h tomorrow to work out the cm3 of the chip box.

I can load up about 11ookg do you think I should get awak with it?

Approxamate size of chip box 2.9ml X 2mW X 1.20H so about 7m3 so get about 5.5m3.

So legally pushing it a bit!

How much do other transit owners fill thers up?

I bet most 3.5 ton truck owners are over loaded by about a ton most days, i'm sorry to say, and that means a big fine if your caught, just ask Steve Bullman about being over loaded.

I was going to get some barn doors on the back so the police cant see in, get some heavy duty springs made ( 6 leaves @ £300 cash fitted ) I already have a helper leaf so the wheel arches are away from the wheel so it doesn't look over loaded keep it clean and drive very carefully so there isn't a reason to give me a tug.

Good Idea, just don't get carried away loading your truck up , with helper springs on etc, my mate did a similer thing to a lorry and snapped his axel studs

Wood chips = 240kg to 520kg per 1m3

as Mr Ed says >350kg per 1m3 is a good place to start
