no rollers should mark the wood, it's the chips that get caught between the wood and the roller that does the marking.

Either the dust extraction on the machine is pants or my stihl workshop vac isn't up to the job. Looks like i'm going to have to buy a proper little dust vac with a 4" pipe on it. Anyone made compressed logs with all the shavings?

Turned up today, only ordered yesterday morning so can't fault the service from Epictools on ebay. Went together easy enough. It is easy to get the fence set true and the table seems flat and accurate. It is a budget machine and as such is let down by plastic handles and the like. I have done away with a couple of the ratchet handles and replaced with bolts, no big deal. I have four rubber feet left over because there is nowhere on the stand to fit them and a strange metal thingy. It is a piece of 8mm round bar about 5" long and has two bits of metal dangling from it, like 4" long pawl type things. No reference to it in the manual and the machine works fine without it. Ring any bells with you UKulian?

 

As Chippy says, it is for setting the blades when changing/sharpening. To be honest, I've never used them, setting with a steel rule as I was taught when I was a lad!

 

Any planer definitely needs a 4" extractor with a decent airflow to work well. I have a JET 12" thicknesser (to eliminate the problem with the FOX) and it was supplied with a 2" spigot on the hood. Absolute waste of time, so I cut it out and adapted the hood to take 4" pipe. No problem after that. :thumbup:

Was using mine tonight to size some shelves for a commission. I had to empty my chip extractor 5 times reduction 9 planks from 30mm rough sawn to 25mm finished. Think I am gonna need bigger receptacle.......... Perhaps one of those cyclone jobs on a wheelie bin.

the oil was some sort of experiment with finishes if i remember rightly, it's veg oil i think.
